What was the best-selling smartphone in India in Q4 2022, you ask? Well, in a surprising move, Apple iPhone 13 was the best-selling smartphone with a total share of 4% compared to all the other models available in the country.

Yes, it’s true. The Counterpoint Research Report for Q4 2022 i.e. October to December shows the scale at which smartphones were sold in India. Here, the iPhone 13 was the best-selling phone. Why this is surprising because usually, the best-selling smartphones are from the budget segment and the iPhone 13 is a premium flagship variant launched in 2022.

According to the same report, Samsung Galaxy M13 took the helm as the first runner-up with 3%. Xiaomi Redmi A1, Galaxy A04s, and Realme C35 took the following positions with 3% of sales in Q4 2022 each.

ModelMarket Share
Apple iPhone 134%
Samsung Galaxy M133%
Xiaomi Redmi A13%
Samsung Galaxy A04s3%
Realme C353%

Apple iPhone 13 is a flagship phone with a price tag of INR 64,900/- at the time of writing this. It sports an Apple A15 Bionic chipset along with a 6.1” Super Retina XDR OLED panel, a 12MP selfie, and a 12MP plus ultrawide rear dual camera setup. iPhone 13’s entry on Counterpoint’s best-selling smartphones in India makes it the first premium flagship phone to be crowned as such.

As said, Galaxy M13 took the second position with a 3% share while Redmi A1, Galaxy A04s, and Realme C35 took third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively with a 3% market share each. As you can see, all the smartphones in the top 5 best-selling in India hail from the budget category except the iPhone 13.

As of Q3 2022, Samsung led the global smartphone shipment market share at 21% while Apple was at 16%. Although there’s an ongoing feud between Apple and Samsung regarding the topmost position, Apple hasn’t attracted the title of best-selling smartphone in India to date. Finally, iPhone 13 made its debut starring in Q4 2022 as the best-selling phone making Apple proud for sure.
