Smartphones just got smarter with Google’s announcement of its latest Android version, Android 9 Pie. This update by Google is simple to operate, and a goes a step further with security. It also focuses on maintaining digital well being. With a higher level of AI integration at its core than the previous version, the software’s features will evolve as the device works with users, by picking information from the user’s digital habits.

Android 9 Pie is adaptable!
Android 9 is designed to pick digital patterns from users and mold itself accordingly. It reads your mind, right from predicting your digital activities, to prioritizing battery distribution for different apps. This update offers a unique feature that assists you in taking a break from your phone at the end of each day. Android 9 adapts to your habit in the most special way.
Features like “Adaptive Battery”, that prioritizes your phone’s power distribution and “Adaptive Brightness”, that adjusts brightness according to usage pattern, will take user experience to a completely new level.
Organised User Interface
Both adaptability and usability are equally important from the user perspective. Android 9 comes with a new navigation system with a single clean home button. On swiping up, newly designed Overview surfaces, which can be described as a space where previews of the recently viewed apps appear. “Smart Text Selection” helps to effortlessly switch between the apps.
Android P also comes with a revamped “Quick Setting, ” with easy access to shortcuts like taking screenshot, volume controls, notification management etc.
Helps Strike a Digital Balance
At an event in May, this year, Google showcased “Digital Well Being” features that was to be bundled with its next Android update (that is Android Pie). Features offered under this digital well being are:
- A dashboard that lists time spent on the device, an App Timer
- Gray Icon feature that deactivates the apps that have surpassed its time limit
- Do Not Disturb which puts to rest all the popups that emerge on the screen
- Wind Down that switches on Night Light and fades the screen to grayscale before bedtime
Enhanced Security Features
Android 9 Pie’s has more advanced security options and thus is more secure from Code-reuse attacks, and an added layer of security to the existent biometric feature. As the world is growing more digital by the day, Google has strengthened its security aspects through Android 9, that has enabled protection of sensitive data like credit card information using a dedicated Chipset for this purpose. Android 9 also comes with significant privacy enhancements like TLS by default and DNS over TLS to help keep browsing data private.
Google Pixel users can now install the update for Android 9 Pie Over-The-Air. The update will be rolled out for all the mobile makers that participated in the Beta program like Android One (compatible ones only), Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Essential Phones before the end of this year. Google is also working with a number of partners to distribute Android 9 to more users, this year.
