Chipmaker Qualcomm has recently introduced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset to boost the performance of higher-mid-tier smartphones. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset comes with significant upgrades over its predecessors, boasting improved speed, efficiency, and advanced AI features as well. As soon as the chipset was announced, some brands have also been confirmed to launch the first devices with the newest SoC.

Christopher Patrick, senior VP and GM of mobile handsets decision said, “Intelligently designed to balance performance and power efficiency, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 Mobile Platform delivers a selection of premium experiences that are brand new to the Snapdragon 7-series.”

Let us take a look at the features of Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3: What’s Exciting

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC is manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process technology that allows a compact design without compromising power. It has an eight-core CPU configuration that includes a Cortex-A715 prime core with speeds up to 2.4GHz, three performance cores running at 2.4GHz, and 4 Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. This setup enhances multitasking capabilities and achieves a 15% increase in CPU speed compared to the SD7Gen1 Model.  Up to 16GB LPDDR5T RAM at 3200MHz speed and UFS 3.1 storage standard will bolster this. There is an in-built Hexagon NPU that will be 60% faster in AI and machine learning processes than the predecessor.

In terms of GPU, the Adreno 720 represents a good boost, delivering 50% greater performance than the previous Adreno 710. The Adreno 720 GPU supports high-fidelity QHD+ displays with 120Hz refresh rates and Full HD+ displays up to 168Hz. The chipset can handle external screens at a refresh rate of up to 60Hz, offering users versatile visual experiences. There is support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Ultra HDR. The visuals will be aided by Spatial Audio from Snapdragon Sound.

For gaming performance, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 includes Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like “Super Resolution” which gives improved graphic rendering speeds up by half promising an immersive gaming experience.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3’s AI Engine bolsters performance per watt by over 50%, allowing for more efficient and smarter device operations. The Qualcomm Sensing Hub brings better activity recognition functionalities that adapt to user behavior for an intuitive experience. Even the videos will be enhanced by AI Video Retouch functionality.

In terms of camera capabilities, the chipset offers support for camera sensors up to an astonishing resolution of over 200MP, managed by advanced image signal processor technology. The chip will allow phones to simultaneously use all 3 camera sensor inputs and stitch together an AI Remosaic output.

Connectivity is also a strong point for Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. It is equipped with an X63 Modem-RF System that supports peak download speeds over the latest cellular networks. “Fast Connect” offers cutting-edge WiFi 6E speeds, and Bluetooth advancements are included to complete the robust connectivity suite. Qualcomm has also provided Quick ChargeTM technology for faster charging cycles.

Qualcomm has confirmed that Chinese smartphone manufacturers- Honor and Vivo will be the first to offer the new Snapdragon 7-series platform on their devices, with the first commercial devices expected to be announced this month.
