Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 SoC launched: Will power devices by March end

Qualcomm on Friday has launched the next in the Snapdragon 7 Chipset series. The chipmaker has announced Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 as the chipset for mid-range smartphones. This is the 2nd chipset in the Snapdragon 7 Series after the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 last year. The newly launched SoC claims to come with 50% improved performance and 13% more power efficiency than its predecessor.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Chipset: Timeline

The newly announced chipset mobile platform will be adopted by smartphone brands like Redmi, Realme, and Motorola soon. The smartphone powered by Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset is expected to launch in March end itself.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Chipset: Features

According to the company, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 aims to bring some of the company’s popular features found in its flagship 8-series chipset. The newly launched chipset comes with a peak clock speed of 2.91GHz. The company claims that it offers over 50% better performance than its predecessor in CPU performance, while the GPU performance sees a two-fold improvement. The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 offers 13% better power efficiency for better battery life too.

In terms of camera, the 7+ Gen 2 SoC supports up to 200MP image capturing along with staggered HDR video capture for improved recording. It is equipped with an 18-bit triple ISP that can capture up to 30 images in low-light mode and merge them to get a brighter, clearer photo. The chipset captures over 4000 times more camera information for better dynamic range.

The chipset is equipped with a Snapdragon X62 5G modern RF system, with dual sim dual active support for 5G and 4G networks. It is capable of download speeds of up to 4.4Gbps while saving power. Also, the Qualcomm Fast Connect 6900 Mobile connectivity system offers up to 3.6Gbps over WiFi 6 connections.

The newest chipset offers a few Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like VRS for optimizing the content resolution and volumetric rendering for graphics like Fog and smoke and Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX Lossless codec for high-quality music streaming.

While performing AI-related tasks, smartphone users will see a two-fold improvement in performance, along with 40% better performance per Watt compared to last year’s chipset. The newly launched SoC comes with Qualcomm’s Sensing Hub and support for intelligently upscaling games and photos from low-resolution images with AI Super Resolution.
