In a surprising move, Sony India has decided to reduce the price of the PlayStation 5 significantly, but for a limited time. As part of the Summer Promo offer, the company is offering a substantial discount on the PS5 Standard Standalone (2021, CFI-1208A01R). The announcement comes hot on the heels of the Japanese entertainment giant’s release of the PS5 Slim in the country. Sony’s strategy is to position the PS5 Slim as its flagship product (at a higher price). To do so, it’s offering a discount on the standard edition to clear the stocks and make way for new inventory. But the big question remains – should you take advantage of this discount, or is it too late?

Sony PlayStation 5 Summer Promo Validity

The company has outlined in a press note that the summer promo discount will be in effect from April 10 to April 30, 2024. However, it’s important to note that the offer is subject to the availability of the concerned PS5 model’s stocks. In other words, the massive discount will only apply to the available stock units, and once they are sold out, the console will return to its original pricing.

Sony PlayStation 5 Summer Promo discount

As part of the Summer Promo offer, Sony India will offer a discount of Rs. 13,000 on the Sony PS5 Standard (CFI-1208A01R) version with a disc drive. Currently, the console is listed on Sony Center India for Rs. 54,990. Once the offer goes live, the console should be available for Rs. 41,990.

It is important to mention that the discount applies to the aforementioned model only. The Sony PS5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digital Edition will continue to sell for Rs. 54,990 and Rs. 44,990, as the offer doesn’t apply to them. However, we think Sony should also discount the PS5 Digital Edition (CFI-1208B01R), currently available for Rs. 44,990.

Should You Get The PlayStation 5 Disc Edition At The Discounted Price?

Even though Sony has launched the PS5 Slim, it comes with the same CPU and GPU as the original PS5, which means that games will run and feel the same way on both versions. With that out of the way, you should consider the PS5 Standard edition for two reasons.

First, if you have a lot of physical game discs (could be of the PS4), the Summer Promo offer is the right time to get your hands on the PS5 Standard (CFI-1208A01R). You can also use the console as a Blu-Ray movie player, an added advantage.

Second, if you’ve been waiting for the PS5 prices to drop, now is your chance. At Rs. 41,990, the PS5 Standard edition with a disc drive and 825GB SSD storage is perfect for you. As a bonus, the console makes up for the perfect birthday gift for several people.
