Question: How is the Xiaomi Mi5s design and build quality?

Answer: There built quality of the Mi 5 raised more than a few eyebrows, something which Xiaomi clearly wanted to avoid this time. Therefore, it went back to drawing board and did some serious brainstorming before coming out with the Mi5S. The glass on the back has been replaced by metal, which does make the new Mi phone look a lot more substantial.

The phone is clearly a mm thicker, taller and wider than its predecessor and about 16 grams heavier as well. The matte finished back doesn’t feel slippery anymore. Phone’s compact form factor and curved edges also ensure a firm grip.

Answer: Well, we didn’t find any issue in the Xiaomi Mi5s sunlight legibility.The Screen is bright enough and easily readable.

Answer: Well, Xaiomi has sourced Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset and coupled it with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU to meet the day-to-day challenges. The flagship smartphone manages to offer a premium smartphone experience.

There is no visible lag, all apps work well. Switching between multiple apps is a cake walk. As expected, all graphic intensive games don’t flutter. We tried a bunch of games like NFS most wanted, Morden Combat 5 and a few more. There were no visible frame drops and everything sailed through very well. The overall gaming experience on the phone is excellent. Also, I didn’t notice any overheating issues.

Answer: The camera app is simple and lets you snap picture quickly.  The camera manages to capture some pretty neat and sharp images in decent lighting. However, sometimes it fails to do justice with the shadows and the low light photography is not up to the benchmark standards established by high-end 2016 flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Xiaomi has ditched Optical Image stabilization which is disappointing for someone like me who likes to take a lot of photos on the move. It offers various camera modes including a pro mode which lets you take control of ISO, Focus and exposure time. The four-megapixel ultra pixel camera on the front also managed to capture some excellent self-portrait for social media purposes. The video capabilities of the phone is second to none in Xiaomi portfolio. It can shoot up to 4K videos that look sharp, vivid and detailed. The continuous auto-focus feature also work well. However, in lowlight, noise creeps in.

Xiaomi Mi 5s is what the Mi 5 should have been in the first place. The new Xiaomi phones improves on its predecessor and offers a better camera, a more pragmatic design and metal body and much better battery endurance. It would have been better if the Mi 5s had retained OIS as well.
