Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch 55-inch QLED TV in India on December 16. The company has partnered with Hyderabad-based Radiant appliances to ramp up TV production in India and its upcoming QLED TVs will be manufactured in the country.

In a statement to PTI, Xiaomi India Category Lead Eashwar Nilakantan told that they are ready to step in the premium segment and address the increased demand for premium Smart TVs in the country.

QLED TVs accounted for 0.5% of TV market this year and Xiaomi hopes to double the market in the next one year.

QLED TVs are similar to LED TVs but they introduce a Quantum Dot film between the backlight and LCD substrate. This results in a purer white backlight that helps with better colors and wider dynamic range.

Xiaomi’s upcoming QLED TVs could be rebranded Mi TV 5 Pro that was launched in China in November last year.

Samsung is of course the biggest promoter of QLED TVs which currently retail in the premium segment. OnePlus QLED TVs are more reasonably priced and the TCL 55C715 4K QLED was a notable addition this year that dragged QLED for a very aggressive mid-range price or INR 55,990. Consumers will be expecting Xiaomi to undercut this even further.
