Xiaomi recently announced its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powered smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 series. The series comprises the Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Although these phones are only available in their native country, a tipster uploaded a camera comparison between them, suggesting that the Xiaomi 14 Pro beats the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Known tipster Ice Universe recently shared two pictures from his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, wherein he shows two photos of the same scene, clicked by the Xiaomi 14 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Captioning the two photographs, the tipster writes that “HDR of Xiaomi 14 Pro main cameras is too strong, so it is easy to kill Samsung S23 Ultra,” implying that the former is better at managing the dynamic range in the image.

The photos are of a window and a table on the side. From what it looks like, the Xiaomi 14 Pro has managed to tone down the brightest part of the image (light coming in through the window) while maintaining detail in the darkest portion (where the table lies). The phone’s photo clearly shows that there’s a bottle, along with a thermal food package, on the table. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra darkens this portion to the extent that the items kept on the table are hardly visible.

X Users Prefer The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Shot

The images show that the Xiaomi 14 Pro has handled the dynamic range better than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, several people in the comments section noted that they still prefer the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s shot, primarily because it better depicts the scene. Twitter users prefer Samsung’s shot as it accurately depicts the shadows and highlights. One user even shows the zoomed version of these images, highlighting how Xiaomi 14 Pro didn’t retain any detail in a particular part, as seen below.

Both Phones Ship With A Different Processor

It is also important to understand that the Xiaomi 14 Pro comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with an improved image signal processor that should be better than that on the Galaxy S23 Ultra powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from 2022. Hence, even though these are the latest flagships from the company, there is a generational gap in the processing power, which gives a slight edge to the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

Those interested in knowing the camera specs should note that the Xiaomi 14 Pro ships with a 50MP (f/1.4, 23mm) primary sensor, whereas the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 200MP (f/1.7, 24mm) primary sensor. To conclude, enthusiasts and potential buyers should wait until the Xioami 14 Pro is widely available and undergoes rigorous testing for all photographic and video scenarios. Although the Galaxy S23 Ultra is available across the world, Xiaomi has announced the global availability of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.
