Messaging app, WhatsApp has been continuously working towards improving its desktop as well as mobile versions. While it has improved the mobile version quite a bit in recent times, it is now working diligently towards making the desktop version better. Some of these new features are under development while others are being tested out. Earlier launched features got mixed responses from the users so we don’t really know how much these new updates will be well received.

Call History Sidebar- The messaging app is going to roll out a feature wherein the call list and call history icon will reflect on the sidebar and the icon image is of a telephone with a dialogue icon. It will show audio and video call lists with one click and will be visible on updating the app for mobile via Play Store, Apple Store, and more.

Media Forwarding with Captions-Users will be able to add a caption while sending GIFs, documents, videos, and images. When a user will attach a file to get sent across, an option automatically appears to add a caption that can be dissolved in one click.

Polls– Polls have already been made live on WhatsApp. Users can create polls and send them over to individual as well as group chats. It will be shown on the attachment icon next to the chat bar showing a direct option to create one poll at a time. The poll can have up to 12 options and multiple options can be chosen as answers.

Screen Lock for WhatsApp Web- A screen lock for the WhatsApp web version is being worked upon. Using this you can lock your screens using a password. Earlier this was available only for the mobile version, but with this new update, you will be able to scan a unique QR code that will enable them to connect your WhatsApp account to desktop screens which if left open or inactive for a long will automatically lock and opened again only via a password.

Profile Picture View in Group Chat- If an unsaved number is in the group and their profile picture is hidden then their desktop photo is indicated by their chat color. For saved contact, profile photos could be viewed in one click without opening their chat separately. This will allow a new way of seeing desktop pictures of saved and unsaved contacts.

The recent WhatsApp updates include announcement groups, 1024 members, group polls, switch between groups, 2GB file sharing, and more.
