vivo India has launched yet another smartphone under Rs. 20,000: the vivo Y39 5G. The handset features military-grade durability, a 120Hz HD+ screen, runs on a 4nm Snapdragon chipset, and offers up to 256GB of storage. It also features a dual-camera setup and a massive battery. While the baseline variant starts at Rs. 16,999, the company also offers an introductory discount.

The vivo Y39 5G features a punch-hole screen with symmetrical bezels on the sides, a relatively thin bezel up top, and an even thicker chin at the bottom. On the back, the phone houses a circular, blacked-out camera module toward the top left.
It is important to mention here that the phone has passed the military-grade shock resistance test (MIL- STD-810H). Per the company, the phone has a cushioning structure; along with the wave crest phone case, they act as a drop-resistant armor.
Besides, the phone has an IP64 dust and water resistance rating and SCHOTT Xensation α cover glass to protect against scratches. Moreover, the company is placing the vivo Y39 5G as a durable handset.

Out of the box, the vivo Y39 5G has a 6.68-inch HD+ LCD screen that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits of peak brightness, and SCHOTT Xensation glass protection. Since the screen isn’t AMOLED, the phone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
In addition, the screen features a TUV Rheinland Eye Protection certification, implying that it is easier on the eyes. Complementing the screen are dual-stereo speakers with 400% volume amplification (we’ll want to test the speakers before commenting on them).
Under the hood, the vivo Y39 5G runs on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (4nm) SoC, which features two 2.2GHz performance cores and six 2GHz efficient cores. The chipset runs alongside 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

While the phone runs on Functouch OS 15 based on Android 15, vivo has promised to provide two/three years of Android/security updates. The company has also equipped the handset with several AI-based features, including AI Screen Translation, AI Audio Algorithm, Live Text, AI SuperLink, and Cirle to Search.

Regarding optics, the vivo Y39 5G features a 50MP (f/1.8) primary sensor, another 2MP (f/2.4) portrait sensor, and an 8MP (f/2.0) selfie shooter. Some camera-related features include Dual View video, electronic image stabilization, AI Photo Enhance, and AI Erase.
Among the most compelling selling points of the handset is its 6,500 mAh high-density battery, which supports 44W fast wired charging (and reverse wired charging). vivo also claims to equip the phone with BlueVolt technology, which ensures up to five years of battery health.
Connectivity options on the handset include 5G, Wi-Fi (dual-band), Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port for charging and transferring data.
