Its been ages since a Sony phone managed to capture traction and trade. The Japanese juggernaut would be trying to turn the tide with the new range of phones unveiled at MWC 2019. The four phones launched are Sony Xperia 1, 10, 10 Plus and L3. So, Sony has christened the new phones with new names, signifying a fresh start. Let’s see what each of these bring to the table.

Sony Xperia 1: The Premium One

This is the first-ever Sony smartphone with a 4K OLED display which brags a tall 21:9 aspect ratio as well as a triple camera setup. This 6.5-inch display with a resolution of 3,840 x 1,644 pixels is called CinemaWide. It combines the image processing and the color calibration of Sony’s professional master monitors.

This one also features HDR (BT.2020) and Dolby Atmos sound support, which means a better media experience.

At the rear, you get a triple camera setup with all 12MP modules. The primary sensor comes with an f/1.6 aperture and Optical SteadyShot (OIS+EIS) and Dual Pixel autofocus. The other two are 2x telephoto lens and finally an Ultra-wide sensor.

In the video department, you get CineAlta that delivers 24fps recording, color profiles, and project management. Other features of the cameras include pro mode, RAW noise reduction and continuous burst shooting to name a few.

Under the hood, the device features the Snapdragon 855 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. The storage variants are 64GB and 128GB, expandable with up to 512GB microSD cards. The phone is fueled by a 3,330mAh battery with Battery Care (a slower overnight charging feature) and Smart Stamina mode (for managing battery-suckers). Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t bundle a charger out of the box.

As far as protection goes, this device comes with IP68 waterproof and Gorilla Glass 6 for the front and back. You also get a side-mounted fingerprint reader to safeguard the privacy of your data. When you turn on the display, you would be welcomed by Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus: Mid-Ranger

Next, in line, we have the Xperia 10 Plus with a 6.5-inch 21:9 IPS LCD display with 1,080 x 2,520 resolution. In the camera department, you get a 12MP primary sensor and an 8MP 2X telephoto sensor. Upfront, the phone sports an 8MP sensor like the Xperia 1. It has 4K videography capability along with SteadyShot (electronic stabilization).

Sony Xperia 10 Plus is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, expandable up to 512GB. It is fueled by a 3000mAh battery with no fast charging support. This one also clads Android 9 Pie software.

Sony Xperia 10: “Not Plus” Mid Ranger

This Sony phone has a smaller 6.0-inch screen with 1080p+ resolution. Camera-wise, it substitutes telephoto lens for a normal depth sensor in a 13+5MP setup. Rest everything remains the same in optics.

The performance would also dip with a dated Snapdragon 630 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB storage (expandable up to 512GB). You get less juice too at 2,870mAh again with no fast charging support. Xperia 10 has the same Android version.

Sony Xperia L3: Entry-Level

It comes with a 5.7-inch 720+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. You get a dual rear camera setup with a 13MP primary module and a 2MP depth sensor. The facade houses the same 8MP selfie shooter. However, there is no 4K video supported by L3 cameras.

Sony Xperia L3

The low-end device would be powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage which is gladly expandable. Since its 2019, you might scratch your head when you find Android 8 Oreo within the device.

Sony Xperia 2019 Lineup Pricing and Availability

You would have to wait for the flagship Xperia 1 till sometime in late spring. As for the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, they would be released on March 18th. And finally, the Xperia L3 is available starting today, February 25th at selected markets. No prices have been declared yet. We would keep you posted on the pricing and other details on these devices. Till then, keep reading the latest and greatest in the mobile tech.
