TL; DR
  • Samsung is bringing QuantumBlack to all 2026 QD-OLED monitors.
  • It reduces reflections by 20% and increases durability from 2H to 3H.
  • ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI monitors will also use this tech.

Samsung Display has announced a new layer called QuantumBlack for its QD-OLED monitors, and this is going to be used across all 2026 models. The focus here is pretty straightforward, reduce reflections and improve durability, especially since these monitors are mostly used in environments where lighting conditions are not always controlled.

The main change is a 20% drop in light reflectance compared to what Samsung was using before. Reflections are one of those things that can mess with how a display looks in real use, especially in brighter rooms, so this is targeting that directly. Alongside that, they’ve increased surface hardness from 2H to 3H, which just means better resistance against scratches during normal use like cleaning or moving the monitor around.

QuantumBlack

QD-OLED already has the ability to turn off pixels completely to produce black, but reflections can still interfere with how that actually looks. This new layer is meant to reduce that interference so blacks and contrast stay more consistent. Samsung also points out that this can help with visibility in games, especially in darker scenes where separation between elements matters.

This is not limited to Samsung-branded monitors either. Companies like ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are already preparing products with this layer, each using their own naming for it. So this is going to show up across multiple gaming monitors rather than being restricted to one lineup.

On the market side, Samsung Display says self-emissive monitors are expected to grow from 3.4 million units in 2025 to 7.6 million by 2030, and they currently hold around 75% share. So this is basically part of their next step as QD-OLED keeps expanding in the monitor space.
