Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is not happening; tri-fold Galaxy Fold in works

Looks like we are ready to bury the rumors around Samsung Galaxy S23 FE as the phone is highly likely not happening. The update came from popular tipster Yogesh Brar according to whom, the speculated Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, a mythical smartphone indeed, is not in development. Instead, it will be taken over by a Tri-fold Samsung Galaxy Z series smartphone that will have two folding hinges instead of one.

Based on the latest piece of information available, the rumored Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is not in development. It would have been a successor to the 2021 Galaxy S21 FE since the S22 FE never materialized. With that being said, what’s interesting is the fact that Samsung is working on an improved version of its Z Fold series smartphone.

Instead of using a single folding hinge inwards, the speculated device will have two folding mechanisms. Dubbed a tri-fold smartphone, it will appear like a book when fully unfolded. It will bring both inward and outwards folding mechanisms together to give a tri-fold form factor.

Surprisingly, this has been speculated since 2018 as well. Samsung went a step ahead showcasing the tri-fold double-folding design with its Flex in and Out at the CES this year. The form factor is indeed new and something Samsung will have to work on given the complexities it will bring with two hinges onboard.

Samsung learned it with the original Galaxy Fold released in early 2019 where it had to recall the units and redo the hinges before launching the improved version in September 2019. It remains to be seen when the tri-fold dual-folding hinges powered Galaxy Z Fold will make it to the public.
