Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018): 7 Interesting Features Coming To A-series

Samsung 2018 A-series phones are shaping up to be quite interesting. Since these are the best of mid-range options that Samsung offers, it’s always interesting to note what new flagship features that the South-Korean giant would add to the mix. Last year, the premium glass body design was what particularly stood apart. And this year Samsung will be adding a lot more. Let’s talk about the 7 interesting Features that will almost surely make it to the Galaxy A7 (2018) and Galaxy A5 (2018).

1. Infinity Display

Samsung has always been the front-runner when it comes to bezel-less phones. Numerous credible leaks point out that the upcoming A-series phones will include 18:9 Infinity AMOLED display panels with extremely narrow bezels surrounding them.

As the latest case-renders point out, the display will also have rounded corners, which will surely set A-series phones apart from the numerous other 18:9 display phones that are increasingly becoming commonplace.

2. Bixby 2.0

Samsung’s take on AI assistant, Bixby is far from perfect, but we still find using ourselves using it on our Note 8 for a few reasons (explained here). Basically, we like how deeply it’s integrated with the phone’s hardware and how we can simply ask Bixby to fetch particular setting options instead of manually navigating to them.

For instance, you could simply ask Bixby to “change Display Mode to AMOLED cinema” before watching a video. And Samsung will now add Bixby support to its A-series mid-range phones as well.

3. Better fingerprint sensor placement

We are still getting used to fingerprint sensor not being on the front. Fast face unlock ameliorates the pain a bit, but we’d still prefer a secure fingerprint sensor. Both the S8+ and Note 8 chose form over function by placing the fingerprint sensor in awkward inaccessible places. Having said that, things will reportedly get better with the 2018 A-series phones.

In Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018), the fingerprint sensor is present below the fingerprint sensor, which is something we could get used to.

4. Snapdragon 660/ Exynos 7885

The two variants of A-series phones this year will be powered by Snapdragon 660 and Exynos 7885. The Snapdragon 660 is the best mid-range chipset from Qualcomm as of now that also includes Kyro 260 custom cores.

The Exynos 7885 should be a comparable mobile platform with a few Cortex-A73 cores that will allegedly be formed on battery efficient 10nm process. The bottom line is, that performance is expected to get a big boost on upcoming A-series (2018) phones.

5. Bluetooth 5.0

The Exynos 7885 SoC that will be used on A-series phones next year has received Bluetooth 5.0 certification. The new standard brings advantages more transmission bandwidth, lower energy consumption, better range, provision for pairing multiple devices,  and more. There aren’t many Bluetooth accessories around, but there will be soon and it helps to be future ready.

6. Water resistant

Water resistance is something you don’t get to see very often on affordable phones, and it’s also something that you will be thankful for at least once in a year.

A-series phones in 2017 were IP68 certified and the same is expected to continue next year.

7. Samsung Pay

   

Samsung Pay is still the most efficacious mobile payment solution in India, and if most transactions that you do are digital, this is something you can benefit. You can store supported cards securely on your phone and don’t have to carry them on you at all times.

Interesting features of Samsung A5 (2017) and A7(2018)

These are a few things to look forward to for the next generation A-series phones. Since the 2017 models have already been discounted, you can expect the next generation models to arrive early next year (most probably in the first quarter).
