Reliance Jio, the telecom wing of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, is likely to roll out its 4G services soon in the country with a soft launch, Credit Suisse mentioned in a note today. In this soft launch, company is gearing up to sell SIM cards at Rs. 200 each from its retail outlet Reliance Digital stores. The report suggests that company is likely to offer free data and voice packs with three months validity as an introductory offer during soft launch.

“Our visits to Reliance Digital stores in Mumbai revealed the stores are preparing for a possible soft launch of Jio’s 4G connections soon,” said Credit Suisse –a leading global financial service company.

Reliance Digital stores staff have undergone various training sessions lately with respect to this upcoming launch of Jio services. The company has boasted it’s in-store equipment to allow quick enrolment.

“The stores have been equipped with infrastructure that allows for quick enrolment: Basically the devices scan the presented ID documents unlike physical transportation of documents, as in other operators. The staff mentioned they have received stocks of Jio SIM cards, but they have not been informed when the sales is to start,” it said.

In December last year, Reliance Jio launched its services for Reliance group employees. At the time company offered free 75GB data and 4,500 minutes of calls on each connection.

“The tariffs post the three-month period are unknown. It needs to be seen if a customer needs to buy a Lyf handset to get the SIM, or if the SIMs will be sold standalone — the store attendants suggested standalone.”
