Reliance AGM 2019 highlights – Jio Fiber, Set-Top-Box, Jio MR headset, Jio Postpaid Plus

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) announced a bunch of next-gen digital service technologies at the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM), held today. RIL chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani started off the event declaring the accomplishments and future growth plans of the business tycoon.

New Jio Products/Services

Let’s get down to the newly announced Reliance product/services –

Jio Fiber

The various applications and use case scenarios of Jio GigaFiber were demonstrated real-time at the AGM stage. Jio Fiber service will launch on 5 September, starting at a price of 700 offering upto 100Mbps speed.

Jio Fiber plans will offer speeds ranging from 100Mbps to 1Gbps. These plans will start at Rs. 700 and will go all the way up to Rs. 10,000 to suit everybody’s needs.

The top-end package includes access to broadband, Jio HomeTV, and Jio’s IoT. You will get to enjoy landline services with all the Fiber plans. Interestingly, the voice-calls across the board to any operators (fixed or mobile) would be free. Mr. Ambani claims the ISD calling tariffs would be 1/5th to 1/10th of industry rates. Further, there is an unlimited US/Canada pack at 500 per month.

Then there is a Jio Forever plan also called Jio Welcome Offer that will give its users an HD or 4K LED TV and a 4K set-top box for free. You may sign up for Jio Fiber as soon as it is available in your neighborhood to avail these offers.

The plan tariff details will be available on Jio website from September 5.

Reliance envisions the Jio GigaFiber rollout to be completed within a span of the next 12 months.

The company is betting on a low-latency network for its varied support services listed below.

Jio Set-Top-Box

Jio Set-Top-Box is a multi-purpose rig that supports India’s first online multiplayer gaming solution. Its uses comprise of real-time Jio-Call video conferencing upto 4 live-feeds.

Jio First Day First Show

Jio fiber plans will come bundled with premium OTT TV content applications. So, you will be able to watch movies the same day they are released, sitting in your living rooms. This service will commence from mid-2020.

Jio Holoboard MR Headset

Jio has harnessed the Mixed reality (MR) technology of one of its invested startup – Tesseract. The Jio standalone VR/MR headset will hit the shelves soon.

The various applications of Holoboard VR headset including gaming, watching movies, online shopping and education were demoed live on stage.

The VR gaming will bag major titles like Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, Tencent, and more. Players could connect with their social media friends too.

Jio Postpaid Plus

Mr. Ambani also introduced a new Jio postpaid plus plan which is touted as India’s first priority SIM set-up service at home.

This vaunts to combine both voice and data connectivity. It will carry family plans, with data sharing amongst all enrolled devices. The roaming charges are likely to be way less than its competition. Even the phone upgrades are promised to be offered at favorable rates.

Jio next-gen technologies

Reliance foretold it’s up and coming strides in the realm of Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, Edge and Cloud computing. thusly it has entered in a strategic partnership with Microsoft.

Jio plans to connect 2 billion IoT devices across more than 1,000 Indian companies in the coming 2 years. These smart connected IoT services are set to start on January 1, 2020.
