Google launched the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro on October 4, 2023. Among the key highlights of the smartphone are better displays, improved camera systems, new colors, and the most important addition, the Tensor G3 SoC. Unlike its competitors, Google’s third-generation in-house processor has nine cores and is created on Samsung’s 4nm fabrication technology. Although the chipset unlocks quite a lot of AI-related features, such as Magic Audio Eraser and Call Screen, it doesn’t look like users will get the raw, flagship performance that other devices in this segment deliver.

Pixel 8 Benchmark Scores

The YouTube channel PBKreviews recently put the Pixel 8 to test on the Geekbench 6 benchmarking platform, wherein the phone scored 1,563 points in the single-core and 4,159 points in the multi-core performance test. Last year, the Pixel scored 1,375 and 3,230 points in the single and multi-core tests, respectively, suggesting a significant performance improvement. As a result, the Pixel 8 should feel more responsive and snappy in hand.

Other similarly priced smartphones, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series (featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC), have scored about 1,800 points in the single-core and 4,887 points in the multi-core performance test. Another smartphone, the iPhone 15 Plus (powered by A16 Bionic), with a slightly larger form factor than the Pixel 8 and the Galaxy S23, scores 2,551/6,340 points in the single/multi-score benchmark test.

Pixel 8 Pro Benchmark Scores

The Pixel 8 Pro scores 1,760 points in the single-core and 4,442 points in the multi-score performance test. These numbers are also better than what the Pixel 7 Pro came back with last year (1,408/3,390). This also suggests that the Pixel 8 Pro is significantly more powerful than the Pixel 8. However, these scores are not on par with what models from other companies have secured on the benchmarking platform.

Although benchmark scores do not reflect the overall smartphone experience that a phone delivers, which, in the case of the Pixel 8 series, should be among the best on any Android smartphone, they are an indicator of the overall performance and power a chipset carries.
