Bharti backed OneWeb said that it has signed a deal with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, to launch OneWeb satellites in India with the PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) and GSLV-MkIII (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle).

On Sunday, the Indian Space Association (ISpA) launched a Letter of Intent that is non-binding. In addition to being a founding member of ISpA, OneWeb will work with stakeholders across the ecosystem to develop India’s space industry.

OneWeb is currently building a constellation of 648 LEO satellites and has already launched 322 of them. The service will be available this year in Alaska, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

OneWeb plans to offer its high-speed, low-latency connectivity services to India and the rest of the world by late 2022. The satellites already in orbit are being tested for connectivity. Resulting in seamless satellite and beam handover, high speeds, and low latency, the results are positive.

A binding agreement will be drafted between OneWeb and NSIL as soon as their respective boards approve the Letter of Intent.

OneWeb will be delighted to use ISRO’s proven platforms to fulfill its vision of taking broadband connectivity across the earth, oceans, and sky. We believe this initiative will further the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of making India a key hub in the global space ecosystem and also boost the India-UK strategic partnership. We look forward to a deeper engagement with NSIL/ISRO over the coming years,” OneWeb Chairman, Sunil Bharti Mittal said in a statement.

We are delighted to have OneWeb looking into how our launch capabilities can help meet their global ambition to connect people everywhere. We are making tremendous progress and India is advancing its space capabilities and we look forward to working together,” Dr. K. Sivan, Chairman of ISRO said.
