OnePlus has been teasing the launch of its first-ever foldable for a while now. Recently, the upcoming OnePlus foldable OnePlus Open was seen in the hands of Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma when she stepped out in the city. As soon as the first look of the device was captured, the speculations about the launch happening on 19th of October became rifer.

Now, in a significant development, OnePlus has spoken about its foldable for the very first time. In an emailed announcement to Verge, the brand discussed what to expect from its first-ever foldable.

OnePlus Open is rebranded Oppo Find N3

OnePlus Open first look

In an announcement to The Verge, OnePlus has confirmed that the brand and Oppo are releasing the same foldable device but under different names. OnePlus claims that Oppo’s chief product officer Pete Lau who was also the co-founder of OnePlus has directed the teams at both the brands to make a foldable in tandem. This foldable will be released under both brands in different markets, though which phone will come to India is still unclear. These phones will be OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3.

Recently, a report by GSMArena claimed that the Oppo Find N3 will be exclusive to the Chinese market while the OnePlus Open will have a global launch. Earlier Oppo Find N2 was a China complete while Oppo Find N2 Flip went global. This indicates that Oppo Find N3 Flip might also be a global launch.

Improvements for Oppo Find N3

Oppo has confirmed that the hinge will be 37% stronger and have “31 fewer components” than Oppo Find N2. It will have an alert slider and might feature up to 24GB RAM and 1TB storage.

OnePlus Open

Pete Lau claims that the OnePlus Open will be “the best…folding phone now.” In an interview given earlier, he said that the foldable will have a variable go-to-market strategy, aiming to cater to different regions effectively.

The new device won’t just be about branding and strategy but a tech marvel in its own right. The OnePlus Open is expected to have the highest pixel density among foldables and a streamlined hinge to make it lighter and more durable.

OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3: Expected Specs

The upcoming foldables from Oppo and OnePlus are expected to have a 7.82-inch AMOLED panel while the cover screen might be 6.31-inch diagonally. The foldables are said to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with up to 24GB RAM and up to 1TB storage onboard.

On the back there is said to be a 50MP primary, 48MP ultrawide, and a 64MP periscope lens. At the front will be a 32MP selfie camera. The foldables will run Android 13 with Color OS 13.1 in China and OxygenOS 13 in other markets. Under the hood will be a 4520mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging capability. Wireless charging is also expected to be available.
