TL; DR
  • OnePlus officially ends 5-year Hasselblad partnership, confirms new in-house DetailMax Engine for its next flagship – the OnePlus 15.
  • Expected camera setup: LYT700 or LYT808/LYT700 main, JN5 ultrawide, and a possibly downgraded 3X periscope (JN5).
  • Unlike Hasselblad, DetailMax may also extend to the OnePlus 15R, but we’re not sure about that.

We recently told you that OnePlus is dropping Hasselblad to go all in on its own imaging engine. That’s now official. OnePlus has confirmed on its community forum that its upcoming flagships will feature the new OnePlus DetailMax Engine, replacing the Hasselblad partnership that has defined its cameras for the past five years.

As we reported earlier, this move was already in the works. Now, OnePlus itself has confirmed that DetailMax will power the next phase of its camera journey. According to Pete Lau, this new system is designed from the ground up to deliver “the clearest and most real photos on a smartphone,” focusing on natural detail, depth, and clarity without artificial over-processing.

However, the end of Hasselblad would also mean the end of XPan and Master Mode on upcoming OnePlus flagships. We might see new features from OnePlus, but that’s not very likely to happen.

The big question now is how this transition will affect the OnePlus 15’s cameras. From what we know so far, the OnePlus 15 is expected to bring some unusual changes. It could ship with either the Sony LYT700 or LYT808 as the main sensor, paired with a Samsung JN5 ultrawide

The periscope camera might actually see a downgrade, with OnePlus considering a 3X zoom setup using the Samsung JN5 sensor. For comparison, the OnePlus 13 features a much larger LYT600 sensor for its 3X lens.

There’s also a chance that the OnePlus 15R might benefit from the DetailMax engine, bringing the same computational imaging improvements to a more affordable model. If that happens, it would be a huge win for the mid-range segment.

So, what do you think? Will DetailMax be able to live up to Hasselblad’s legacy, or is this a risky gamble from OnePlus? Let us know in the comments below.
