A couple of days ago, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus confirmed the existence of the OnePlus 12 at the BOE conference. At the event, the company also showcased the smartphone’s screen, hiding the back panel’s design, which is often the primary design element for most phones. Although we’ve already seen the OnePlus 12 pictures showing thin bezels around the display and the volume/power buttons on the side, a tipster has leaked the peak brightness of the smartphone’s screen, leaving the internet surprised.

OnePlus 12 Tipped To Feature 4,000 Nits Peak Brightness

Known tipster Ice Universe has claimed that the peak brightness of the OenPlus 12 “far exceeds 2600 nits.” The tipster expects the phone to reach a whopping 4,000 nits. However, it’s unclear whether the phone’s display hardware supports a peak brightness of 4,000 nits (which might be locked behind a software lock considering hardware restrictions) or whether users can set it at the brightness level manually. Previously, some reports have claimed the OnePlus 12’s peak brightness to be 2,600 nits.

Will 4,000 Nits Peak Brightness Benefit OnePlus 12 Users?

In the comments section of the tweet, users have expressed their concerns in a rather humorous manner, saying that 4,000 nits is “crazy bright” or that it’s like “launching a nuke in your eyes!” This could be true, as phones with over 2,000 nits of brightness can feel too shiny, especially in indoor environments. Some smartphones, like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, reach absolute peak brightness levels only in direct sunlight.

However, there’s a segment calling this just a specifications brag to get some eyes and that it’s impossible to equip a smartphone with such a bright display. Technically, yes, this would adversely impact the phone’s battery and can cause heat management issues. Further, some users also note that this could cause screen burn-in issues. Nonetheless, it’s important to mention that these are just speculations and that the OnePlus 12 is yet to become official.

OnePlus 12 Leaked Specifications

The OnePlus 12 is touted to feature a 6.82-inch QHD+ LTPO display with 2,160Hz PWM dimming and up to 120Hz refresh rate. At the BOE, OnePlus showcased the smartphone with BOE’s 2K screen. Under the hood, the smartphone will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the fastest Android chip in the market. On the back, the phone will feature a SOny IMX966 50MP (f/1.7, 23mm) sensor with optical image stabilization, a 48MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera with a three times optical zoom.

Last but not least, the OnePlus 12 is said to come with a 5,400 mAh battery that supports 100W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. As the smartphone is nearing its launch, more details about the OnePlus 12 should surface online. In August, Smartprix leaked the first high-quality renders of the smartphone.
