Carl Pei, the driving force behind Nothing, announced another software upgrade for the Phone 1, marking another milestone for the company since the launch of its inaugural smartphone in July 2022. The much-anticipated Nothing OS 2.0, built upon the foundation of Android 13, is now being rolled out to all users of the Phone 1, introducing a host of cutting-edge features and improvements.

Nothing OS 2.0 Adds Phone 2’s Features To Phone 1

Per Nothing OS 2.0’s changelog, it brings “exciting features, enhanced customization, and improved functionality” to the Phone 1. The features added to the Snapdragon 778G-powered smartphone include some personalization-related upgrades, including a new visual identity (as seen on the Phone 2), a new launcher grid layout, and more options for customizable folders.

Widgets on Nothing OS 2.0 have an updated design, including Clock, Weather, Quick Lock, and Quick Settings. In addition, the new widgets are also available on the lockscreen and always-on display, something that was missing in the previous version.

Glyph Interface 2.0 On Phone 1

Glyph Interface on Phone 1 now gets essential notifications from the “most important apps and contacts to leave a persistent Glyph.” Users can now use the torch button in the quick settings menu to enable Glyph Interface as a soft flashlight.

Other features that are a part of the update include the Clone app that allows users to operate multiple accounts in apps without logging out, an App Locker that helps protect apps by requiring a password while opening them, an improved auto brightness logic, and other improvements to optimize the user experience.

In the past, Carl Pei said Nothing Phone 1 will get three Android and four years of security updates. It has already been a year since the phone came out. At the moment, Phone 1 runs on Android 13, and an Android 14 beta is already under development.
