Motorola Lenovo will release the third instalment of this year’s Moto G series, the Moto G4 Play, in India on 6th September. Compared to the other Moto G4 models – the G4 Plus and G4, the G4 Play is smaller and poses with a humbler set of hardware.

The display is 5-inches in size (720p HD) and below it hums an entry-grade 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 processor aided by 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Other notable hardware features include 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, 5MP selfie snapper, MicroSD card slot that supports up to 256GB of secondary storage, and a 2800 mAh battery with turbocharging.

A 1GB RAM + 8GB storage variant also exists, but we are not certain if Lenovo will be bringing that to India. Sticking to the primary strength of Moto G lineup, the new G4 Play also offers near stock Android Marshmallow software.

By bringing Moto G series down to Moto E area, Lenovo comes out as more confused and indecisive than ever before. That’s certainly not welcome when you are targeting the hyper-competitive under 10K market. On the other hand, a Moto G recessing back to a more compact form factor, and tackling heating issues by using a milder SoC could work in its favor.
