Microsoft’s Bing Integrates OpenAI’s Dall-E AI for Effortless Text-to-Image Generation

Microsoft is pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence (AI) by introducing Bing Image Creator, an innovative tool that generates images based on users’ descriptions. The tool, powered by OpenAI’s DALL∙E, enables users to describe an image they want to see, add context like location or activity, and choose an art style to generate an image. The Bing Image Creator is integrated into the Bing chat experience and will be initially rolled out in Creative mode. Users can simply type a description of an image and use it as a prompt in chat to get creative visuals for a newsletter or inspiration for redecorating their living room.

The tool will also be incorporated into Microsoft Edge, making it the first browser with an integrated AI-powered image generator. To use the image generator tool in Edge, users can click on the Bing Image Creator icon given in the sidebar. Microsoft is working closely with OpenAI to ensure responsible use of the image creator tool by adding safeguards that limit the generation of harmful or unsafe images. The controls aim to block and warn users when the system detects that a potentially harmful image could be generated by a prompt.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, explains that the company is responding to growing demand for visual experiences by making Stories and updated Knowledge Cards 2.0 available to all Bing users. Stories offer a visually engaging way to learn about a topic, while Knowledge Cards 2.0 provide fun facts and key information at a glance. The tool has been updated to include interactive, dynamic content like charts, graphs, timelines, visual stories, and more.

The Bing Image Creator is now available in the Bing preview experience at bing.com/create for Bing users worldwide in English, with more language support to come. It is also available in Microsoft Edge from the Image Creator icon in the sidebar for both desktop and mobile. Bing Image Creator integrated into Bing chat is rolling out to Bing preview users on both desktop and mobile starting today. Microsoft’s innovation is likely to boost creativity and improve the search experience for its users.
