Mi CC9e that launched last night is the first phone with Snapdragon 665 chipset. This is an octa-core processor with a 2GHz clock speed. This chipset was launched back in April succeeding the Snapdragon 660 chip. So obviously, we would want to know how much of an upgrade is it over the former? Well, as per a recent Weibo post showcasing the Master Lu test results, the difference is pretty thin.

But before we go into details, here’s how the two Snapdragon chips compare on paper.

The major improvements come from the upgrade in the manufacturing process. Snapdragon 665 is based on an 11nm architecture which should bring power savings and performance enhancement compared to its predecessor’s 14nm process. Further, it is aided by a much better Adreno 610 GPU.

So, how much of difference do these upgrades make?

How much better is the Snapdragon 665?

For those of you who don’t know, Master Lu is a popular benchmark measuring app in China. Here, the app has compared the performance of Mi CC9e with Snapdragon 665 against Redmi Note 7 with Snapdragon 660. For the tests, both the phones with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage has been used. In the tests, Mi CC9e has scored 178992 points while the Note 7 hits 165683 points.

Nevertheless, let’s proceed to the Master Lu results, starting with the CPU benchmarks –

Mi CC9e CPU benchmark- SD665

To reiterate, Snapdragon 665 works on Samsung’s 11nm LPP process while SD 660 is based on a 14nm LPP FinFET process also from Samsung. This improves latency or the response time amongst different CPU elements.

The newer Adreno 610 on Mi CC9e gears for a 37,211 score and beats the 30,835 score of Note 7, which depends on Adreno 512 for the graphics rendering.

The margin continues as Mi CC9e with a comprehensive score of 178,992 crushes the Redmi Note 7’s 165,683 points. The aforementioned 11nm process and Adreno 610 GPU must have played a major hand in this.

Anyways, as history has taught us, it’s not wise to read too much into these benchmarks. We will only be able to conclude anything with certainty once the Snapdragon 665 phones become more common.
