While incidents of smartphones spontaneously exploding are not unheard of, they have typically been associated with lower-end Android devices in recent times. However, concerning news has now been reported from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where an iPhone is said to have exploded inside the pocket of a businessman. The specific iPhone model remains undisclosed. The incident transpired while the individual was indoors at his residence, seemingly without any external factors triggering the explosion.

Apple iPhone Blast

Prem Raj Singh, a 47-year-old real estate businessman hailing from Aligarh, recounted a harrowing experience when his phone suddenly exploded while nestled in his pocket. According to Singh, the incident unfolded with a sensation of increasing warmth emanating from the device, swiftly followed by the emergence of smoke. As a result of this unexpected explosion, Singh sustained burn injuries on his left thigh and thumb, necessitating his immediate hospitalization for treatment.

“I took it out of my pocket and it exploded with a loud sound following which it broke into two pieces,” a Times of India report quoted Prem. In this instance, external factors such as the phone being connected to a charger or overheating from extended usage were not contributing factors. The explosion occurred independently, without any apparent external triggers.

Singh confirmed that the smartphone at the center of the incident is an Apple iPhone, although the exact model has not been explicitly mentioned. Based on the shared image, it appears to resemble the older iPhone 8 or iPhone 7. Singh, who has been using iPhones for more than ten years, expressed a loss of confidence in the company following this alarming event. Notably, the explosive episode resulted in the phone fracturing into two distinct pieces, with the front and back panels dislodged from each other. The accompanying image reveals that the iPhone suffered complete combustion and is severely burnt.

The most recent instance of a smartphone explosion involving an iPhone was documented in 2021. In this case, a resident of Melbourne reported that his iPhone X inflicted second-degree burns on his person.
