A couple of weeks back Mahindra announced a new electric vehicle subsidiary to market their world-class electric SUV. As we enter fag end of 2022, Tata Motors continues to lead the Indian electric car market with its Nexon EV. Mahindra plans to challenge Tata’s dominance in EVs. Mahindra took the wraps off from five electric car prototypes at an event in the UK on August 15 as a demonstration of their progress towards that goal. Most of these prototypes will go into production sometime by the end of 2023. Apart from prototypes, Mahindra XUV400 also has been showcased as their first electric car under their XUV line-up that will go on sale soon.

Mahindra XUV400 EV will be launched in September 2022 but it was first showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra & Mahindra’s executive director of the auto & farm sectors revealed that they are expecting 20% to 30% of Mahindra SUVs to be electric by 2027. For now, let’s dive into the expected price, specs, and features of the Mahindra XUV400 electric car.

Mahindra XUV400 EV features (expected)

Battery and Range

Mahindra has teamed up with LG to use their automotive battery technologies for all of its Indian variant electric cars. This will make Mahindra XUV400 the first electric vehicle equipped with batteries developed by LG Chemical. The car is expected to arrive with two range trims – regular and long-range.

Exterior and Interior

Even though it could inherit the design from XUV300, the electric XUV400 is anticipated to feature a closed-off front grille with X-pattern, revamped headlamps, bespoke alloy wheels, and a new set of LED tail lamps. The interior features could include a floating touchscreen display, advanced connected car tech, dual-zone AC, a sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety Features

Mahindra is said to go with the standard safety measures in the XUV400 EV. This should comprise up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, parking sensors, and seat belt reminders.

Images

Official images of the Mahindra XUV400 EV are still behind the curtains, but the electric car is expected to borrow some design stance from the newly showcased XUV.E9. So here’s a glimpse.

Colour variants

Mahindra XUV400 EV is said to be painted with 4 colour options – Pearl White, Red Rage, Aquamarine Blue, and Sun Orange.

Another significant feature the XUV400 EV could get is a larger floor panel to provide enough room for the battery pack. Also, it is expected to arrive with a big boot and cabin space. Since XUV300 is a sub-4-meter compact SUV, the XUV400 EV is marginally longer crossing the sub-4m mark. This is so because ICE cars have to meet the tax benefits for their size but that’s not the case with electric vehicles.

Mahindra XUV400 EV Rivals

Since the Mahindra XUV400 EV will be offered in regular and long-range models, both versions will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and MG ZS EV.
