The Indian automaker Mahindra has launched a new all-electric coupe SUV with a refreshed design and exceptional range: BE 6e. Here’s a complete rundown of the vehicle’s design (exterior and interior), powertrain, and safety features.

Mahindra BE 6e Design

Exterior

Mahindra BE 6e side look

It is not possible to talk about the Mahindra BE 6e and not talk about its design. Straight out of the factory, the vehicle looks like a futuristic race car we’ve seen in sci-fi movies. Everything from the aerodynamic splitter on the front to the J-shaped DRLs and two separate rear-mounted spoilers gives the vehicle a distinct look, which the Indian market is seeing for the first time.

On the front, the vehicle has the J-shaped DRLs, with the headlamps hidden below them (in the black housing). The cuts and creases on the vehicle sure give it a sharp look, but the new front splitter is even sharper. Between the DRLs is BE’s badging. Below the badge is the aggressive grille and what looks like a skid plate in pictures.

The 20-inch aerodynamic wheels dominate the vehicle’s side profile, along with flush handles on the front door and handles on the C-pillar for the rear doors. Besides, there’s aggressive cladding atop the wheels and the side-lower panels. Yes, the Mahinda BE 6e has a coupe-inspired silhouette, but it features boxy edges instead of conventional coupe-shaped SUVs’ smooth, curvy design.

The vehicle’s rear fascia contains J-shaped LED taillights, Mahindra’s baking in the center, and two chunky skid plate modules on the bottom. If you look above the rear windshield, you’ll notice the presence of two large spoilers extending out of the roof, a couple of inches above the glass. Between the taillamps is a connected LED screen-like space that can display alphabets sliding from one end of the screen to another.

Moreover, the vehicle has a sporty and, at the same time, contemporary look. At launch, the vehicle will be available in four colors: Tango Red, Everest White Satin, Desert Myst, and Firestorm Orange. All the colors have a vibrant finish, with glossy black exterior elements adding the required contrast.

Interior

Mahindra BE 6e steering

On the inside, the BE 6e looks nothing like any of the Mahindra cars in the market. Instead, it has a tech-loaded cabin inspired by the controls in a fighter jet. The dashboard houses two large screens (the left screen acts as the infotainment screen, and the right screen acts as the instrument cluster). In front of the instrument cluster is the new steering with a D-cut finish on the top and the bottom. The steering contains touch controls and an illuminated BE logo in the center.

The dashboard also houses a HUD unit that shows details on the front windshield. It is the center console that immediately grabs one’s eyes. While the traditional controls to adjust the climate are given within the screen, the console features a large throttle-like drive mode selector, along with a circular knob that helps control the cabin controls. There’s an extendable center armrest, along with power-adjustable front seats.

The cabin also includes roof-mounted controls for the 360-degree camera and a couple of other controls, along with an in-cabin camera. Further, the car has an infinity roof (or a moonroof), which gets illuminated. Other features include wireless chargers, air quality indicators, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon setup, and a facial recognition system.

Mahindra BE 6e Powertrain

Mahindra BE 6e platform

Given that the car is based on the new INGLO platform, it supports both a smaller battery pack and a larger, heavier battery pack. Both the variants have a different battery capacity, range, and a differently-powered motor.

For instance, the Be 6e, with a 59 kWh battery, claims to provide 535 kilometers of range on a single charge. The rear-mounted motor on this variant produces a peak power of 231 PS and a peak torque of 380 Nm.

The 79 kWh BE 6e provides a range of 682 kilometers on a single charge. Further, the motor with this variant produces 286 PS of peak power (while the peak torque remains the same). The powertrain offers three drive modes: Range, Everyday, and Race.

Both the battery packs support 175 kW DC charging, which can juice up the battery from 20 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. Although buyers won’t get a charger with the vehicle, the company will make two options: one with a 7.3 kWh rating and another with an 11.2 kWh rating, and sell them separately.

Even though the vehicle ships in a rear-wheel-drive configuration, the INGLO platform AWD option. Hence, there’s a chance that Mahindra can update the vehicle with AWD in the future.
