Infinix Smart 8 is different from Infinix Smart 8 HD which came out in December 2023 and was priced at Rs. 6299. Infinix Smart 8 Review: Design and Build

The design of the Infinix Smart 8 is similar to Smart 8 HD. Considering the price, the design of the smartphone looks quite premium. The rear panel has a texture that looks nice and Infinix has called it the timbre texture. The device has good looks that are suitable for people of all ages. We received it in a Rainbow Blue shade and when the light fell on the back panel a rainbow-like design was reflected. The rear panel has a square camera module that includes 2 camera sensors and an LED light ring. At the front is a 6.6-inch display and thin bezels around it with the chin being slightly thicker.

There is a punch-hole selfie sensor at the front. Magic Ring feature reminds you of the Dynamic Island feature seen on iPhone. You can view the duration of your call, charging status, completely charged notification, and more in this Magic Ring.

The sides between the screen and the rear panel are flat. The right side houses a power button, and volume rockers while the left edge has a SIM tray slot. The bottom edge includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille. The top edge has been left idle.

Infinix Smart 8 has a plastic body and according to price, the build quality is decent. The display comes with NEG glass protection. When held in hand, the device feels light (189 grams) so it can used for long durations. Although it is thick, but considering the price range, you can’t expect more from its design.

Infinix Smart 8 Review: Display

Infinix Smart 8 features a 6.6-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports 500 nits brightness which works fine indoors but outdoors under sunlight, working on this display becomes a task. The colors are ok but there is no sharpness in the visuals. Dynamic range too is just about average.

Using the color profile in the default mode of Infinix Smart 8 is not at all comfortable. To make it safer for your eyes, you should go to Display Settings to switch on the Eye Care Mode and adjust the intensity. Then you can stream content on it safely.

The display also has an Apple-like Dynamic island which Infinix has called Magic Ring. The Magic Ring will display the charging status, duration of the call, face unlock, and more notifications. The theme of the phone can be set as you like by going to the MY DIY options. To do this, you have to go to Settings > Personalization > Online Wallpapers> Theme > DIY, wherein you can change the theme and save it as My DIY.

Infinix Smart 8 Review: Performance

Infinix Smart 8 is powered by MediaTek Helio G36 chipset which is an octa-core processor based on a 12nm fabrication process. There is an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU as well. Infinix has launched the device in a single storage configuration so it comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. With 4GB Virtual RAM, you can extend the RAM to 8GB as it takes 4GB storage space to convert it to RAM.

Talking about the performance, regular tasks like calling, messaging, light video streaming, and more are smooth. However, when you try to multi-task, you might feel a lag sometimes. Apart from that, if you like to play games then this device isn’t for you. Light games like Candy Crush, Project Makeover, etc. run fine but don’t expect more than this.

Benchmark test results are given below.

Infinix Smart 8 runs XOS 13 based on Android 13 Go Edition. The interface of the device is easy to use. The best part is that while phones in this segment are filled with bloatware, this 7000 rupee phone has very limited pre-installed apps.

Infinix Smart 8 Review: Cameras

Infinix Smart 8 features a dual camera setup at the back including a 50MP primary camera and a secondary AI camera. For selfies and video calling, there is an 8MP punch-hole sensor at the front.

With the primary sensor, you can click decent photos in daylight. The photos taken have natural colors and average detailing. Although the detailing isn’t crisp according to price, there is no room for complaints. In low light conditions, the camera struggles and as a result the shots have noise. In indoor settings where the light is good, the sensor works fine.

The results of its selfie camera aren’t that good. While the sensor doesn’t change much about the skin tone, but details are very less. In the shot below, it is visible how along with the background, the hair has also been blurred out. Even in lowlight conditions, selfies aren’t that good.

सेल्फी

Overall, the performance of the primary camera is good, but the selfie sensor is average. While you can’t expect more than this at such a low price point, still selfie sensor could have been made better.

Infinix Smart 8 Review: Battery Life and Charging

Infinix Smart 8 packs a 5000mAh battery which easily lasts for more than a day. Even if you are a heavy user, the battery will last for one day. With a screen time of 5 hours, the device gives a good battery backup. But if you are using a fast-charging device, you will have a problem using this one. This is because it comes with 10W charging support which means a long time to charge the smartphone.

Infinix has also given a charger with the device. This adapter takes almost 2.5 hours to charge the battery from 0 to 100%.

Review Verdict: Should you buy Infinix Smart 8?

If you are looking for a stylish smartphone on a 7k budget, the Infinix Smart 8 can be one of your options. The device also has an HD+ display, 5000mAh battery, and 50MP primary camera-like features. Compared to the other model of this series, Infinix Smart 8 HD (launched in December 2023), this one has an upgraded chipset though there is still a lag in the performance. The HD model has 3GB RAM, and a 13MP primary camera while this one has 4GB RAM and 50MP primary camera. While it can’t be called the best deal, still if you get more storage and a better chipset by giving 1200 INR extra, then it is not a bad deal.

Reasons to buy

  • Good design
  • Decent Primary camera
  • Long battery life

Reasons to not buy

  • Performance of the secondary & rear cameras is underwhelming
  • Average display
  • Slow charging speed (10W)
