Last MWC, Huawei glimpsed its foldable phone to the world. But the official reach to the customers got delayed due to durability concerns with the foldable. Nevertheless, here we have its successor, well sorta! This one is more like an amendment over the original. The biggest change is the processor and a new hinge mechanism.

Come, let’s have an in-depth look at what else’s different in this Huawei Foldable.

Huawei Mate Xs Features

Huawei Mate Xs goes official

Starting with the backbone of a foldable – that folding mechanism, or the hinge!

Mate Xs employs a 2-layer structure with two plastic panels joined by a hinge that has around 150 parts. It is said to be sturdier and robust than before, which is something to be seen over time and tests.

In the unfolded state, there’s still an 8” expanse with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. And when its folded, the phone offers a 6.6” primary display to the front and a super tall screen at the rear which acts as a viewfinder for selfies.

As for the cameras, the optics remain intact – 40MP main sensor, 16MP (ultra-wide-angle lens), and an 8MP sensor (telephoto).

Another big change is within the hood. You have the Kirin 990 SoC at the foundation coupled with 4,500 mAh (backed by 55W fast-charging) and 8GB RAM and a humongous 512GB storage. Huawei also emphasized its improved cooling system.

But the bone of contention for some would be the software. It is Android 10, albeit an open-source one with the EMUI skin on top. Nah, no Google services here. Rather, Huawei has equipped the device with its own in-house HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) and the App Gallery (alternative for Play Store).
