How to Hide WhatsApp Images and Videos From Gallery For Specific Groups and Contacts

1

For most of us, WhatsApp is the go-to medium for all the multimedia messages and video/ voice call needs. Every day we see a number of messages pouring in from different people and it isn’t always ideal to have all the incoming content flow to the Gallery app, where it’s difficult to keep to oneself.

Addressing the issue, WhatsApp has now rolled out a new feature that you can use to hide WhatsApp media from the gallery. It is called Media Visibility, and you can use it for both personal and group chat.

Here’s how to hide WhatsApp Images and Videos from phone’s Gallery (For Android Users only)

Step 1: The Media Visibility feature is available on WhatsApp beta version 2.18.194. So to use it, you have to be a beta user, or else wait until the proper build starts rolling out on Play Store.

Step 2: Update your WhatsApp to the latest version (2.18.194). Or you can download the APK file from APK mirror.

Step 3: Open your WhatsApp and go to the Contact Info and Group Info from the chat interface.

Step 4: On the info page select the Make Visibility option, and it will prompt a dialogue box.

Step 5: By default, the option to see the newly downloaded media file on phone gallery will be ‘Yes’. To hide WhatsApp media files, you can select ‘No’ option and tap on ‘OK’.

Step 6: From here on, all your WhatsApp media file from the particular contact or group will appear on the app or in the file explorer app (under WhatsApp> Media> WhatsApp Images> Private), but not in your phone’s gallery.

The process will stop new files from showing up in the gallery, but any old media file that’s already made its way to your phone’s gallery won’t disappear.

Other than the Make Visibility feature, the Facebook-owned group has also made few other changes. Lately, WhatsApp for Android received a new beta version with a function to enable labels on forwarded messages and, before that, it started group video and voice calling support to all Android beta users.
