War transcends mere bullets and borders; it encompasses the lives affected, the hidden heroes, and the emotions that resonate more powerfully than gunfire. Film has a unique ability to transform historical events into emotional experiences, allowing us to grasp the significance of each choice, each sacrifice, and every act of resistance.

In the current political climate between India and Pakistan, the tension is not solely political; it is deeply personal, raw, and profoundly human. With India avenging Pahalgam with Operation Sindoor, a new India that doesn’t back down is being shown off to the world. These five films centered on the Indo-Pak wars do more than depict the conflict; they immerse you in its reality, making you feel every moment.

1. Uri: The Surgical Strike

Vicky Kaushal and Aditya Dhar took the nation by storm when they depicted the Uri Surgical Strike on the big screen in 2019. The movie was an absolute hit as soon as it was released and cinematically portrayed the very real story of India’s retaliation to the 2016 Uri attack. The movie showcased how Major Vihaan Singh Shergill led the covert surgical strike on Pakistani territory and had patriotic and personal reasons driving his motives. ‘Main Lad Jaana’ still forms a part of most of India’s playlist.

This is one of those underrated and sleeper hit movies that many might not have watched despite it being released in cinemas. Inspired by true incidents, The Ghazi Attack was India’s first underwater war film, depicting the mysterious sinking of the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi during the 1971 conflict. It has taut storytelling and a realistic depiction of naval strategy. The movie will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It was released in 2017.

3. Raazi

One of the best espionage thrillers made in India, that too with a human touch, is 2018’s Raazi. The movie follows Sehmat, an Indian spy who married a Pakistani officer to gather intelligence during the 1971 war. This movie was one of the few that showcased how there are similarly good people in Pakistan, too. Sehmat’s husband, Iqbal, might be a Pak army official, but respected her and her nation equally, so much so that the two ended up falling in love with each other. The songs of the film ‘Aye Watan’, ‘Raazi’, and ‘Dilbaro’ add to the narrative well.

5. LOC Kargil

This one too is a JP Dutta Classic and truly lives up to the standards set by the director, as it follows soldiers of the Indian Army as they try to locate their patrol officers after learning that Pakistani troops are crossing the Line of Control, which leads to a battle. The film was released in 2003 and is one of the longest Hindi movies made to date.
