The times are hard for Google. Their best-rated smartphone, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, have been part of one or the other controversy, ever since they launched. Many early adopters have complained that the new Pixel 2 duo have an array of issues.

Some users reported with dull colors and screen burn-in issue on the Pixel 2 XL, while others have reported a clicking sound on the speakers of Pixel 2. In the last few days, Google has been actively investigating these issues and now it has an official stance on the matter.

Google Response on Screen Burn in and Other display issues

A post from Google’s Hardware product manager, Mario Queiroz, addressed all the issues and assured that they will be addressing peeve points soon with the necessary software upgrades, all the while maintaining that the new Pixel Phones adhere to the highest quality standards. The post also guaranteed to extend the base warranty on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL device from one to two years internationally.

On the topic of color saturation, the Queiroz said that “One of our design intents was to achieve a more natural and accurate rendition of colors. We know that some people prefer more saturated colors, so both Pixel 2 phones already include an option to boost colors by 10% for a more vivid look. And based on the recent feedback, we’re adding a new mode for more saturated colors, which will be made available via a software update to both Pixel 2 phones in the next few weeks.”

However, the post still backed the Pixel 2 XL POLED display saying that its quality is at par with OLED panels used in comparable products.

“Our current investigation of burn-in, which started as soon as we received the first user report on October 22, confirms that the differential aging is in line with that of other premium smartphones and should not affect the normal, day-to-day user experience of the Pixel 2 XL.”

Google’s response, however, tacitly confirms that Pixel 2 XL display is indeed seeing burn-in and not image retention.

Regardless of the matter, Google’s response to address the issues with software upgrades will bring a sigh of relief to all the potential Pixel 2 XL buyers. The auto-dim of navigation buttons on the Android 8.1 shows that Google is already working on the software side to alleviate the issue.
