Google ready to take on ChatGPT threat with competitor on Feb 8

ChatGPT garnered more than 100 million active users in just two months of its debut. On the other hand, even after a decade of AI models and use cases in the works, Google failed to generate enough momentum like OpenAI and ChatGPT. Turns out things are up for a change as Google is holding an event on February 8th at 2:30 am CET entitled “Google presents: Live from Paris”.

Although the media invite doesn’t reveal a lot, the report gave an idea of what Google has to offer during the event. The video description mentions how Google (using this AI technology) is reengineering how people search for, export, and interact with information. Google’s companion to search will allow users to get a natural response from the search engine while unleashing more relevant information via Search, Maps, and other properties.

OpenAI’ ChatGPT is available publicly, however, Google’s AI has a limited access. The incoming product or service will bank on the same launching it for public use to compete head-on with the AI chatbot ChatGPT that has raised questions over Google’s search business. Here, Google has internally declared ChatGPT has a code red existential threat.

It is unclear whether Google will make the ‘Apprentice Bard’ AI chatbot public that was recently in the works. The chatbot uses LaMDA conversational technology and is sentient, however, it initially failed to gain anticipated momentum when it was showcased. It was confined to beta teasers and Google’s engineers but it was not made public which is likely one of the primary causes why OpenAI ChatGPT and DALL-E saw a major uptick in active user base.

Google is also facing tough competition from Microsoft which has a major stake in OpenAI. The tech juggernaut already has powerful language models and with the upcoming event, it will soon extend to Google lens, Translate, Maps, and Shopping apart from its Search business. You can watch the event live on Feb 8 at 2:30 pm CET right here.
