Gemini-Powered Side Panel Is Now Available For Paid Workspace App Users

Google has started rolling out its advanced AI chatbot Gemini in the side panel of its Workspace apps, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Gemini can help users generate content, summarize, or analyze different parts of their documents. The new Workspace interface will facilitate users’ work with automatic summaries and relevant prompts.

The New Side Panel Is Only Available For Paid Users

Before we begin with the new features, it is important to mention that the Gemini-powered side panel is only available to paid Workspace users. That said, the tool will utilize the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which has a longer context window and can handle more advanced reasoning.

In Google Docs, Gemini can help users write and refine their content, along with features like summarization, brainstorming ideas, and creating content based on the document.

Here’s What Users Can Do With The New Side Panel On Docs & Slides

Similarly, on Slides, users can create new slides and custom images and summarize presentations using the side panel. In Sheets, users can track/organize data, quickly create tables, generate formulas, and ask how to do specific tasks, like format cells or add formulas, directly from Gemini using the side panel.

Gmail’s side panel can help users curate customized emails, change their tone, and suggest responses. Last but not least, Gemini in Google Drive will help users summarize one or multiple documents, obtain facts about a project, or deep-dive into something without going through numerous documents to find information.

New Gemini-Powered Side Panel Is Available From June 24, 2024

To access the new tool, users can click on the Ask Gemini button in the top right corner of the Workspace apps. With regards to the rollout pace, the tool will hit Google’s Rapid Release domains within one to three days from June 24, 2024. Further, Scheduled Release domains will start seeing the feature on July 8, 2024.

The Gemini-powered side panel is available for Google Workspace customers with Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education, and Google One premium subscribers.
