The race for the next frontier in foldable technology is heating up, with Samsung joining the fray alongside Huawei, and Xiaomi in developing tri-fold smartphones. Here are exclusive insights from GSMA data.

Three weeks ago, GalaxyClub identified Q7M as Samsung’s tri-fold internal model number, but uncertainty surrounded the SM-F968 designation. We can now confirm SM-F968 corresponds to this tri-fold device, slated for release in both South Korea and China. This confirmation stems directly from the GSMA database, ensuring its accuracy.

GSMA Database Reveals Samsung Tri-Fold Device Model Numbers

We discovered two model numbers in the GSMA database. The first model number is “SM-F968N“, where the “N” at the end stands for Korea. The second model number is “SM-F9680“, this time with a “0” at the end, which stands for China. Both model numbers are listed with the official market name “Q7M“.

This is exactly the same as the internal model number associated with the Tri-Fold a few weeks ago. Normally Samsung adds the official market name of each device to the GSMA database, but since there is still a long time until the product is unveiled and to avoid any leaks about what the phone is, Samsung seems to have chosen to add the internal model number. Anyway, when we put the puzzle pieces together, we clearly know everything.

Tri-Fold Device to Forgo Galaxy W Branding

Both model numbers also start with “SM-F968X”, and it’s likely that Samsung will not be introducing the Tri-Fold under the W-series brand name. Last year, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition model as Galaxy W25 in China, but this time the Tri-Fold model will not be introduced under the Galaxy W brand name.

For example, if the phone is introduced as Tri-Fold in Korea, the product will be introduced in China with the same official market name. If a new device under the model number “SM-W902X” is added to the database in the future, we will update the article. But for now, the Tri-Fold model is not expected to be introduced also under the “Galaxy W” market name.

Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold Release Timeline

Based on historical patterns, Samsung devices listed in the GSMA database typically launch within 6-7 months. Applying this timeline, the tri-fold phone could see an official unveiling around October 2025. However, this timeframe remains tentative and subject to change based on development progress.
