OpenAI’s Sam Altman got fired on a Google Meet for malfeasance or wrongdoing. But is that the sole reason or there’s something else packed behind the doors? Turns out many people have come up with their own hypothesis on why Altman was fired.

Sam Altman and the hypothesis on why he was fired

Altman was fired from OpenAI, the company he created, that had products such as the revolutionary ChatGPT and GPT-4 by the board of directors. The reason why he was sacked was found to be Atlman’s motive to push for commercializing OpenAI’s research without weighing the safety risks of technologies in use. In other words, Altman was transparent about communicating with the board after his actions and decisions at OpenAI. Now that’s out of the picture let’s look at some of the theories looking up on the internet.

Theory #1

According to one theory, OpenAI is a limited-profit company and has non-profit board members and thus, there’s no direct incentive for them to remove Altman on financial grounds. However, the corporate speech declares Altman as radioactive possibly because he hid or violated certain duties or major developmental issues.

Theory #2

Another user said that OpenAI’s products matured and now the board wants to get their financial interests served. Thus, Altman was fired so that a ‘glorified manager’ could take his place offering no innovation, inflating pricing, and cutting costs on the way. The user even tagged ‘Sundar Pichai’ as one of those glorified managers to replace Altman.

Theory #3

According to this theory, some people who are in power (the big players) want to keep the normal people in control i.e. Altman. The user even pointed out his intuition on how something big could happen in a decade or so. It could be a ploy given the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and how it could take over humans in years to come. Of course, this might seem more on the sci-fi scene but it is certainly a possibility as per the conspiracy theorists.

Theory #4

A user on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out how the board of directors at OpenAI sacked Sam Altman, a person who created the company and the popular chatbots, and how it could affect OpenAI customers unless the AI isn’t decentralized.
