CES 2021: TCL unveils OD Zero Mini LED display and a bunch of TVs

0

TCL was an early adopter of mini LED technology with its 8-series Roku Smart TV. It also brought the much affordable 6-series brandishing this backlighting mechanism. Well, at CES 2021, the brand is pushing the boundaries of the TV industry with its latest ODZero displays. Thanks to this new technology, the TCL flagship TVs of 2021 will be slimmer and offer improved brightness, colors, contrast, and uniformity. The new 6-series TVs will also support 8K resolution content.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is TCL OD Zero Display Technology?

TCL engineers have reduced “the optical distance (OD) between the Mini-LED backlight layer and the LCD display layer (diffuser plate) to as little as 0 mm. Thus, the name.

To achieve this close construction, TCL has used micro-meter mini-LED active-matrix backlighting (not to be confused with micro-LED). The size of the mini LEDs has been shrunk and more of them are packed on the backlight layer. The local dimming zones, thus created, allows the brightness to be adjusted in real-time and also uniformly. The diffuser plate can be brought closer without worrying about any dark spots too.
