Amazfit GTR Mini Review: Design & Fit

The first thing I notice about a wearable is its weight and feel in hand. Amazfit GTR Mini stands tall in both these aspects. The watch is super lightweight (37 grams) and the body is slim  (9.25mm) and soft to touch. It has a stainless-steel dial (42mm) along with a glazed back panel that makes it look premium. The steel dial feels great in hand and so does the functionality button. I wore the watch continuously for 36 hours and never felt any sort of discomfort or uneasiness.

Amazfit GTR Mini comes in Midnight Black, Misty Pink, and Ocean Blue colors and I received the standard Black color variant for review purposes. Although I am a fan of unique and vivid colors, but that doesn’t mean black was any less impressive. The watch looked good on the wrist and has a plastic back that contains all the sensors. All in all, the design and fit of the wearable give very less to complain about. It comes with a 5ATM rating for protection against water so I didn’t have to worry when raindrops fell on the watch directly.

Amazfit GTR Mini Review: Display

Amazfit GTR Mini sports a 1.28-inch rounded HD+ AMOLED display panel with a 416×416 pixel resolution. And 326PPI density. The display size is quite large and looks somewhat similar to Pixel Watch display. It is vibrant and gives crisp and clear visuals even under direct sunlight.

The touch on the display is mostly responsive but sometimes shows slight lags. Watch faces can be customized using the Zepp app while the crown housed on the right upper helps you navigate between various menus. Swiping up brings quick settings menu, and swiping left or right gets widgets like activity summary, music playback, heart rate, sleep, etc. The display turns on with every hand movement, which might prove to be good for some and annoying for others.

Amazfit GTR Mini Review: Performance & Health features

Amazfit GTR Mini Smartwatch is powered by a dual-core Huangshan 2S chipset which makes sure that the watch experience is seamless. It runs Zepp OS which looks and feels good. Amazfit GTR Mini works on Android 7.0 and above & ios 12.0 and above when it comes to Zepp OS. The OS is well-optimized and totally suitable for the wearable.

Let’s talk about one of the most important aspects of a smartwatch these days- the Health Features. The Amazfit GTR Mini has a SpO2 sensor, sleep tracker, and an advanced Biotracker PPG that provides details about heart rate, stress levels, and more with just one tap. The results come out in just 15 seconds. As for the accuracy of these sensors, one can’t rely 100% on the heart rate as well as the SpO2 sensors. There was always a difference in the readings noted by the Amazfit sensors and otherwise, so take these readings with a grain of salt. The sleep tracker tracks sleek stages like Deep Sleep, Light sleep, or even REM sleep, while the step counter is one functionality that surely needs work as it showed noticeable variation when compared to other step counters.

Talking about sports mode, the watch has 126 sports modes but one can’t use all of these at once. You will have to choose 7 favorite sports modes from the app, and you can change the modes anytime you want to. These modes include outdoor running, outdoor cycling, walking, and more.

Amazfit GTR Mini comes with acceleration, geomagnetic, ambient light, and even 5 satellite positioning systems. It has a built-in GPS which means one doesn’t need to carry your smartphone with you. Although GPS does take time to lock, the consistency in tracking routes is ok.  It uses polarised GPS antenna technology so the accuracy of live location is on point.

The watch comes with Bluetooth 5.2 which is outdated for a watch that costs above 10,000. It doesn’t support Bluetooth calling and doesn’t have any speakers, which are some more downers for the wearable.

Amazfit GTR Mini Review: App support & watch faces

Amazfit GTR Mini Smartwatch gets support from the Zepp Application. The Zepp App is available on Android as well as ios stores so the watch can be used on both these platforms without any issues.

The Zepp app shows data from sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, calorie burn, and even GPS data. It is a user-friendly app that is easy to understand and operate. The app has over 80 watch faces to choose from, with an option to add personal images like self-portraits or any preferred image.

Amazfit GTR Mini Review: Battery

Amazfit GTR Mini Smartwatch packs a 270mAh battery under the hood. The brand claims that the watch comes with 15 days of battery life, while in actual usage, it lasted for around 11 days with normal usage. Normal usage included turning off the 24/7 heart rate sensor, and sleep tracker. When all the features were in use, the watch lasted for about 5.5 days.

The magnetic charging pin charges the battery from 0 to 100% in about 2 hours and 10 minutes, which is kind of slow for a wearable priced at 11k.

Review Verdict: Should you buy Amazfit GTR Mini?

Expert Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Amazfit GTR Mini is a wearable that is a good combination of style and functionality. The watch has a sleek and lightweight design, Zepp OS, AMOLED display, 120+ sports modes, and large battery life. It comes with advanced GPS and a 24/7 heart rate sensor but does lag behind in terms of touch sampling rate, charging speed, and outdated Bluetooth connectivity. There are no speakers or Bluetooth calling and the smartwatch is surely not fairly priced as it costs above 10k without any unique features. With a price tag of Rs. 10,999, the watch will not be affordable to all sections of consumers. So, go for Amazfit GTR Mini only if you are ok with the above-mentioned features you will get with this 11k watch, otherwise, there are various options available to choose from.

Reasons to buy

  • Lightweight & sleek design
  • AMOLED display
  • Large battery life

Cons

  • Charging is slow
  • No Bluetooth calling or speakers
