TL;DR

  • At first, Amazon will launch the quick delivery service in a handful of locations, an approach it also followed with the one-day delivery service.
  • “We will have our own offering of essentials that users will get in 15 minutes in the coming weeks,” says Kumar at the Smbhav Summit held in New Delhi.
  • In addition to Amazon Tez, the e-commerce platform also announced its plans to create 20 lakh jobs in India by the end of next year.

The popular e-commerce platform Amazon, which already provides one-day or two-day delivery at various locations, is about to launch a 15-minute delivery service called Amazon Tez. Recently, Amaozn’s India country manager, Samir Kumar, said that the company is currently testing the service at a few locations and will launch the service soon.

Amazon Tez To Begin Operations At Select Locations

At first, Amazon will launch the quick delivery service in a handful of locations, an approach it also followed with the one-day delivery service. However, in due course, the company wants to compete with BlinkIt and Zepto, the quick commerce apps that claim to provide a variety of items in a few minutes.

The rise of the quick commerce market has surely impacted the e-commerce market. A drastic difference in the fulfillment duration (a few minutes vs. a day, or maybe even more) has affected the overall sales and consumer engagement of giants like Amazon and Flipkart. As more buyers turn toward quick delivery services, it is vital for giants to enter into the segment.

Flipkart Already Began Its Quick Commerce Operations In August 2024

Most recently, Flipkart launched its quick commerce service under the “Minutes” brand. Initially, the service was available in Bengaluru, but it has since expanded operations in metros like Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. To provide a one-stop solution to buyers, Flipkart also plans to add medicines to the instant delivery portfolio. This will surely help the company grab more customers and sustain its business against early movers like Blinkit.

Amazon Tez: Challenges And Opportunities

Given that Flipkart’s Minutes has been live since August 2024, it has a slight advantage over Amazon. However, given Amazon’s scale and technical infrastructure, it won’t be difficult for the company to catch up. “We will have our own offering of essentials that users will get in 15 minutes in the coming weeks,” says Kumar at the Smbhav Summit held in New Delhi. Amazon plans to offer a wide selection at affordable prices, with sprinkles of AI here and there.

In addition to Amazon Tez, the e-commerce platform also announced its plans to create 20 lakh jobs in India by the end of next year. In order to achieve this, the company must expand its seller network and delivery ecosystem at a rapid pace. More details about the Amazon Tez service should surface soon, given that the company is eager to unveil the service to its customers.
