Volkswagen India has announced an update to its popular Tiguan SUV, ensuring compliance with the latest Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. The 2023 model of the Tiguan is now available at a base price of Rs 34.70 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 50,000 more expensive than its predecessor. However, Volkswagen has also introduced significant enhancements to justify the price premium.

One of the notable additions to the 2023 Tiguan is the introduction of new dual-tone Storm Grey interiors, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the SUV. Additionally, Volkswagen has equipped the Tiguan with a wireless mobile charger, providing convenient charging options for mobile devices on the go. Another noteworthy feature is the inclusion of ‘Park Assist,’ a Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) safety feature. This feature enables the vehicle to take control of the steering, aiding the driver in parking maneuvers at the push of a button. It’s important to note that the driver retains control over the pedals.

When it comes to safety, the updated Tiguan offers a range of features. These include rear seat belt reminders, six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), anti-slip regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), hill start assist, hill descent control, engine drag torque control, active Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), three headrests at the rear, three-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a driver alert system.

Mechanically, there have been no changes to the Tiguan. It continues to be powered by a sole 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 190 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The power is transmitted through a 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG), which distributes power to all four wheels via the 4MOTION system.

With these updates, Volkswagen aims to position the Tiguan as a compelling option in the SUV segment. The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, and Citroen C5 Aircross.
