Google Pixel Review, Price and Specifications

Google's own smartphone, the Pixel, just has to epitomize Android potential. Therefore, it's hardly surprising that Google is putting its best foot forward with the new Pixel phones. The Pixel is the smaller as compared to Pixel XL, but is poised to deliver a similar experience.

Google is using a 5-inch AMOLED display with 1080p full HD resolution. Underneath the hood, a Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset is ticking at 2.15GHz, accompanied by 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB/128GB storage. Since it's a Google device, MicroSD card is obviously out of question.

The 12MP camera on the Pixel and Pixel XL has large 1.55-micron pixels that should help it perform better in low lighting. Think of it as Nexus 6P camera with even bigger pixels. Google claims that this is the best smartphone camera of all times. The DxoMark score of 89 further supports these claims. The camera is also quite fast with almost zero shutter lag, even in low lighting. An 8MP selfie camera is also at the front.

Other hardware features include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac 2x2MIMO (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, headphone jack, USB Type-C, NFC, fingerprint reader and a 2770mAh battery.

The software part is equally enticing. This is the first Google Phone that comes with Google Assitant inbuilt. Google is also providing unlimited cloud storage for images and videos (full resolution) clicked using Pixel phones. The Base software is Android 7.1 Nougat and the handset will continue receiving version updates and security patches for 2 and 3 years, respectively.

The Google Pixel is a compact, premium handset which will be available for pre-order in India starting October 13th. Google Pixel price is India starts at 57,000 INR, which sounds a bit on the higher side.

  • premium design
  • powerful performance
  • Great camera hardware
  • Latest Android OS with Google enhancements
  • No expandable storage
  • Limited service centers in India

Google Pixel review

The Google Pixel is designed to deliver a Google-centric experience, complete with perfect integration of all the services Google has to offer, as well as the introduction to Android's new Google Assistant, now more talkative, helpful, and exclusive to Pixel. The design of the Pixel is quite reminiscent of the iPhone-esque HTC One A9, with a variation of the HTC 10's beveled edge that is found all the way around the backside of the phone.

Google Pixel Review

The Pixel XL first makes us appreciate the smaller Pixel all the more; it's not that the XL was necessarily too big, but it's fantastic to see such a big portion of what made that phone so appealing translate to this smaller size without losing much of anything.

Of course, there's a flip side to that, and many of the problems we had with the Pixel XL carry right over to the Pixel – or in the case of the display's middling brightness, end up being exacerbated here. read more →

  • Unique design with a build that feels even better than the Pixel XL
  • Battery life isn't just good, but could even beat the Pixel XL
  • Well-done camera makes it easy to capture impressive pics
  • Pixel Imprint fingerprint scanner put to great use with gesture controls
  • Display in need of a brightness boost
  • A little on the thick side for a phone this size
  • No waterproofing/dust resistance

Google Pixel review

The body is made from metal and glass pretty much a given these days and it tapers down ever so slightly on the rear to help avoid any unnecessary camera bumps. A circular fingerprint sensor sits below the camera sensor, and both are encased in a divisive glass panel that runs about a third of the way down the back.

The Pixel's display is fantastic, comfortably one of the best at this size. It’s an AMOLED panel the same tech Samsung uses on its Galaxy series with a 1080p resolution. read more →
