Samsung made a bang with its latest addition to the wearable segment with Samsung Galaxy Ring. As the wearable tech is due to launch officially in July alongside Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, the folks at CNET got their hands on Galaxy Ring divulging some key information about the ring.

Samsung Galaxy Ring has three colorways – ceramic black, silver, and gold. You can choose anyone from nine sizes with the smallest weighing 2.3g and the largest weighing at 2.9g. It makes Galaxy Ring way lighter than its closest competitor Oura Ring weighing between 4 to 6g based on the sizes.

Although Samsung didn’t divulge any information on the battery sizes, we have learned that the smallest ring has a 14.5mAh battery with the largest being 21.5mAh. An interview with Samsung’s VP of wearable tech Hon Park revealed a battery life of up to 9 days. It should be reserved for the largest size (carrying a 21.5mAh battery) while the smallest would give at least five days of battery backup.

Park further mentioned Galaxy Ring will be able to detect four metrics critical for sleep tracking. It includes respiratory rate, heart rate, night movement, and sleep latency. Samsung has already unveiled a few features called ‘My Vitality Score’ that account for alertness as developed by the folks at the University of Georgia.

Next up, the Samsung Galaxy Ring can be worn with the Galaxy Watch to get the best results thanks to the high-quality data collected by both wearable devices working in tandem with each other. Pak mentioned how wearing both wearable devices can enhance the performance of the five stages of sleep. However, you need to understand that you can still use either one of the devices working in tandem with your smartphone.

When it comes to compatibility, although Galaxy Ring works seamlessly with Android devices, there’s less likelihood that it would work well with iOS devices given the Android/iOS challenges. In any case, we should get more input on the Galaxy Ring as we still have weeks to go before the second UnPacked event kicks in this July.
