Google I/O 2022: Pixel 7 Series & Pixel Tablet make a surprise entry

Google’s annual developer’s conference I/O 2022 kicked off last night and on Day 1, the company has been on a roll with various major announcements. Though there were expectations about Pixel 6a, Buds, and watch, what has surprised everyone is the surprise entry of Pixel 7 Series and Pixel Tablet. Google has revealed the design of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro ahead of their launch this year.

Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro

Google Pixel 7 series will come with some design changes over its predecessor. The camera bar will have an aluminum finish. While Pixel 7 will have a dual camera setup, Pixel 7 Pro will have an additional telephoto lens, just like Pixel 6 Pro.

Both smartphones will have a glass back and run the latest Android 13 out of the box. In terms of chipset, Google has confirmed that the Pixel 7 series will use the next-gen Google Tensor chipset. The new Tensor chipset will deliver a fast and more powerful performance with AI-heavy breakthroughs and personalized experiences in photography, speech, video, and security.

As for the other specs, leaks that came out the claim that Pixel 7 will feature a 6.3-inch display whereas the 7 Pro will have a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel. The Pro model will have a 120Hz refresh rate while Pixel 7 will have a 90Hz refresh rate. In terms of camera, the Pixel 7’d dual camera setup will include a 50MP lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens. As confirmed by Google, Pixel 7 Pro will have an additional 12MP telephoto lens as well with 2x zoom.

While Google Pixel 7 will come in Obsidian, Lemongrass, and Snow colors, Pixel 7 Pro will come in Obsidia, Snow, and Hazel colors.

Google has teased the launch of its new Pixel Tablet as well. It will launch in 2023 and use Android 13’s optimization for large screen tabs. The Tablet has a front camera on the top bezel when held horizontally and will be powered by the Tensor chipset under the hood. There is a single camera on its back as well. More details will be out next year when the tablet will actually launch.
