Yu Yureka Plus is an upgrade over Yu’s yesteryear best seller Yureka, which helps it stay relevant in the face of fresh competition. So what has changed you ask?
The most noticeable change is the new full HD display. The display size remains same at 5.5 Inches, but it is now crispier and sharper, and the color tone as also improved by a margin (If you felt colors on Yureka were way oversaturated; we did).
That’s not all that has changed. With a reinforced chassis, Yureka Plus is stronger and much more resilient against drops when compared to its predecessor. The design remains same with a moonstone finish back and plastic build, but this time there is an additional White color variant which you can opt for.
Yureka Plus is powered by Snapdragon 615 octa core processor with 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz and other four at 1.1 GHz, all paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage space. You can add another 32 gigs using the provided MicroSD card slot.
With a higher full HD resolution, the Snapdragon SoC in Yureka Plus has to work harder, but the performance in day to day usage remains same (which wasn’t great in the first place). The handset, however, staggers with heavy usage. It isn’t meant for hardcore gamers, as there are heating issues, processor limitations and a mediocre battery to be dealt with.
Software is latest Cyanogen 12 OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which offers several customization options and provision for regular updates, while still maintaining stock Android like performance and aesthetics.
Another thing that Yu has worked on is the photography section. The primary camera replaces Sony’s IMX135 sensor with a better IMX214 sensor, and that coupled with better optimized software is good enough for noticeable improvements. Yureka Plus camera falters a lot less and is better at processing details, but there is still room for more improvement.
Battery backup is once again the Achilles heel here. The 2500 mAh battery struggles to get through one day of moderate usage. If you are anything more than a casual user, its better you invest in a power bank or remember to carry your travel charger in your travel gear. If you don’t have way too many power guzzling apps, standby time is rather good.
Yureka Plus is a very attractive proposition at best online price of 8,999 INR. If you are a basic user or can manage with mediocre battery backup, Yureka Plus is a very decent buy for its price.
