!!! LONG AND DETAILED REVIEW !!! Purchased 10 days ago. CPU:- This laptop has Pentium Gold 4417u processor which is based on Intel's Kaby Lake R architecture. It is similar to i3-7020u but with slower GPU (610 vs 620) and a lower amount of cache (2mb vs 3mb). It has a base clock of 2.3ghz with no turbo boost, but it does have hyper threading which means its 2 cores will deliver almost twice the performance. Unlike Pentium Silver processors which can be found in similar priced laptops, this one provides superior performance. However, It is a 15 Watt chip compared to 6 Watt Pentium Silver N5000. Hence, if two CPUs are compared in exact same laptop, Gold version will consume more battery. RAM:- It comes with 4GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 2400mhz, which is soldered onto the motherboard. However, it has an empty RAM slot available as well, which allows us to add another 4GB stick and expand the total RAM to 8 GB. GPU:- It has an integrated Intel HD 610 GPU which is not powerful by any means but should be enough to perform day to day tasks like video streaming, browsing etc.. You can also play some games on it. Games released prior to 2007 and some latest indie games should run fine. I have tested a few, the results are mentioned at the end. Storage:- It has 500GB mechanical hard drive, which to be honest is not ideal in this day and age, especially since SSDs are increasingly becoming more affordable. But it's alright for the price. However, some reviewers have complained about the speed of laptop being slow, which I believe is not due to CPU or RAM but this drive. This is also the reason why the laptop feels slow initially since windows apps and windows itself is being updated in the background, and that's pushing the drive a little too hard. Also, every time you restart the laptop, the disk sits at 100% usage for a while, so opening any program at this period of time feels a bit sluggish. I swapped it with an 128GB SSD and bought a HDD enclosure to use the drive as an external storage device. This modification cost me about 2k, but was well worth it. I felt a significant difference in speed. Display:- This is probably the weakest part of this laptop. This is clearly the place where Acer chose to cut the corner in order to build a machine of this caliber for this price. It has a TN panel which is a decade old technology and is inferior in every aspect compared to IPS. The resolution of 1366x768 doesn't help either. Just like other TN panels it has terrible viewing angles, even 10 degree tilt in any direction will result in severe color shift. It is best if you look straight at it from a distance, but even then colors looks totally washed out. Battery:- This laptop has good battery life, you can get upto 5 hours of normal usage and 2 hours of heavy usage/gaming at 25% brightness. It comes with 45 watt charger, which can fully charge it in 2 hours when the laptop is turned off. Keyboard:- The keyboard is another good point about this laptop. It feels good to type on and also has a dedicated number pad. Touchpad:- This laptop has an extremely good touchpad for the price, it uses precision drivers which makes it a real joy to use. Built Quality:- Build quality of this laptop is quite solid. It is built with a thick plastic of good quality. I expect nothing less from a reputable company like Acer. Thermals:- When tested in the month of August at a room temperature of about 30° C. After 30 minutes of gaming, CPU temperature only reached 58° C, which is excellent. There was no thermal throttling whatsoever. Benchmarks:- Note:- All these tests were performed at default single 4GB RAM, you can expect higher performance if you add another 4 GB RAM.
