Never the one to hold its punches, Micromax / YU Televentures is blatantly challenging OnePlus 2 with its upcoming YuTopia smartphone in an ongoing fierce marketing campaign.  Now it’s no secret that YU’s next will have top of the line qualcomm chipset, won’t be skimming out on specs and will sell for a price dangerously close to the 2, which is having a great run as a mid-ranger these days.

With Yureka launch, it was Xiaomi under YU’s cross-hair and this time Yu is all set to challenge OnePlus. An acrid teaser image with a blurred OnePlus 2, questioning the choice of 1080p display on a 2016 flagship killer might just be below the belt. This clearly implies that Yutopia will flaunt a QHD display (or 4K? Nah). This wasn’t the first time though. Earlier Yu took digs at Sandstone finish on OnePlus 2 simultaneously confirming a metal build for Yutopia.

OnePlus and YU rivalry started even before their official entry in India. Cyanogen signed an exclusive deal with YU leaving OnePlus high and dry just before its India launch. Eventually however, everything worked out well for everyone. Now aspersions are being cast on YU – Cyanogen relationship, but Cyanogen has already confirmed that Yutopia will be running latest Cyanogen OS out of the box.

This stunt might please spec junkies, but if you follow tech updates, it’s a well-established fact that a display is much more than its resolution and QHD isn’t necessarily better than a full HD panel. We have high hopes for Yutopia as it’s the most ambitious attempt from any domestic manufacturer so far, something we have been waiting for since a very long time. Let’s wait and watch some more.
