TL;DR:
- YouTube Premium has increased its prices in India for the first time since its launch, with hikes ranging from 12% to 58%.
- The most impacted plan is the Family plan, which saw a massive 58% increase.
- Existing subscribers have until October to decide whether to continue to cancel their subscriptions.
YouTube Premium has been one of the most popular subscriptions in India, giving you access to both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. However, after five years, the company has decided to increase its prices in India, with hikes ranging from 12% to 58%.
These changes affect all the plans, but the most affected is the Family plan, which has seen a significant hike of 58%. This plan, which used to cost ₹189, now costs ₹299. Previously, each member’s share would be around ₹32, but with the new pricing, it jumps to ₹50 per member.

Individual and student plans haven’t been spared either. The individual plan has gone from ₹129 to ₹149, a 15% increase, while the student plan has jumped from ₹79 to ₹89.
Even prepaid plans have been affected: the monthly individual prepaid plan now costs ₹159, up from ₹139; the quarterly plan has increased from ₹399 to ₹459; and the annual plan has gone from ₹1,290 to ₹1,490.
Plan | Old Price (₹) | New Price (₹) | Hike (₹, %) |
Family Plan | 189 | 299 | +110, 58% |
Individual Plan | 129 | 149 | +20, 15% |
Student Plan | 79 | 89 | +10, 12% |
Prepaid Monthly Plan | 139 | 159 | +20, 14% |
Like I said, these changes have particularly affected YouTube Family Premium users. As a YouTube Family Premium subscriber myself, I find these increases quite significant.

How does it affect existing users and new users?
If you’re already subscribed to YouTube Premium, you’ll receive an email asking if you want to continue your subscription at the new rates. If you don’t agree or ignore the email, your subscription will be automatically canceled by the next billing cycle in September. If agreed, the new pricing will take effect in October.
However, if you are new to YouTube Premium, you’ll be starting with the new rates.
