Chinese company Xiaomi has announced a Bluetooth audio receiver for the Chinese market, that enables audio streaming to speakers or headphones that are not Bluetooth compatible. Basically, it will act as a bridge between the two, meaning that you will now be able to connect your old school AUX In-totting speakers to your smartphone via Bluetooth.

The said device will also help music enthusiasts make use of their 3.5mm jack headphones, even if they own a handset that does not have the audio jack facility, such as the Mi 6.

The company has set the price range of the audio receiver at CNY 99 (around Rs. 900) and naturally, comes cheaper than the USB Type-C compatible headphones (including Xiaomi’s very own that command a price of around Rs. 2,800).

Coming to the design, the device comes in white color and has a cylindrical shape. It houses a 97mAh battery inside (that the company claims can last up to four to five hours on a single charge), and has support for Bluetooth 4.2.

Other than that, it has a clip-like mechanism to cling onto the user’s shirt, so as to ease up on the handling issues. There’s also a microUSB port at the device’s bottom for charging purposes.

The 3.5mm port (to be used for connecting the headphones/AUX wires) occupies the place at the top of the audio receiver, while a physical button (for power and pairing to devices) also finds its place on the upper side of the device.

For now, the audio receiver has been restricted to the Chinese market, with no official word out regarding its global availability.
