Redmi Y3 (review) is a recent camera-centric budget entrant from the Xiaomi family. The phone stands out from the crowd due to its cameras, specifically its 32MP selfie shooter. If we take the front camera out of the picture, the phone still stands strong. Hardware like Snapdragon 632 and a 4000mAh battery are awesome to have in a phone priced under 10k.

However, not all of us are lured by the selfie game and the Redmi Y3 has its own limitations. And hence, if you want something else that caters to other aspects of the smartphone experience, here are a few alternatives to Xiaomi Redmi Y3 that you may consider.

Redmi Y3 Alternatives

Each of these phones has a spot in this list as they fill the gaps that Redmi Y3 has one way or the other.

1. Redmi Note 7

Weird enough, Redmi Note 7 is priced the same as Y3 and still boasts a better chipset capable of delivering much better performance. It ships with a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 660 chip with Adreno 512. You also get fast charging support, USB Type-C port, a higher resolution screen, and a premium glass body with Note 7 – which are all missing on the Redmi Y3.

Rest of the phone features include 12+2MP rear camera panel, a 13MP selfie snapper, 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution, 3GB + 32GB storage or 4GB + 64GB storage variants with MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie.

2. Realme U1

Realme U1 (review) ships with the 12nm process based 2.1GHz MediaTek P70 SoC and ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. The chipset is faster and performance snappier than what you’d get on Redmi Y3. On the surface too, it dons a better 6.3-inch 1080 x 2340 IPS LCD display. When it comes to protection, it sticks to Gorilla Glass 3 whereas the Redmi Y3 is shielded by a Gorilla Glass 5.

The phone comes with a smaller 3500mAh battery with a 10W charger, more RAM+ROM options- 4GB+64GB RAM or 3GB RAM+ 32/64 GB, 13MP+2MP rear cameras and a 25MP front-facing shooter.

3. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2

Asus Zenfone series hit the spot with it’s Pro M2 (review) phone and is still a strong contender in the sub 15k segment. Yet again, this one beats the Redmi Y3 at least on paper in terms of processing might and display. Straight off the bat, it flaunts a 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with a higher 1080 x 2280 resolution and Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top. Under the hood, you get a 2.2 GHz octa-core 14nm-based Snapdragon 660 chipset with Adreno 512 which are of an upper lineup than the SD632 in Redmi Y3.

In the memory options too, it has an upper hand with 4/6GB RAM+ 64 GB, as well as a 3GB RAM+32 GB models. However, if photography is your factor, then this stands behind with a 13MP front shooter and 12MP+5MP rear setup. It’s 5000mAH battery with 10W fast charging support is an interesting quirk of this phone.

4. Realme 3

Realme 3 (review) is a decent pick in terms of looks and photography. It flaunts a dewdrop notch sitting on a 6.3-inch HD+ display. As for the cameras, there are no huge sensors or special bells and whistles like the Redmi Y3. At the back, you’ll get a 13MP+2MP optic arrangement while a 13MP shooter resides up front.

The MediaTek Helio P70 that powers the phone is faster than what you’d get on Y3. It ships with 3GB/4GB RAM variants along with storage options of 32GB/64GB (expandable up to 256GB via a dedicated slot). You get a big battery of 4230mAH, which unfortunately lacks fast charging support.

5. Samsung Galaxy M20

This year Samsung reimagined its budget range phones with trendy looks. Galaxy M20 (review) displays a 6.3-inch Infinity-V front. However, if selfies are your thing, then the 8MP shooter may falter but not by a long mile. The rear camera setup includes a 13MP (F1.9) primary with a 5MP (F2.2) Ultra-wide sensor.

Its larger 5000mAh battery, as well as USB-C port, are nice to have. It is engined by 1.8Ghz Octa-core Exynos 7904 chip. Samsung has baked in Experience skin based on Android 8.1 (Oreo). As for storage, you get 3GB/4GB, LPDDR4 with 32GB/64GB storage expandable up to 512GB via dedicated card slot.

6. Redmi 7

If you’re tight on budget, then you may go for this entry-level Redmi phone that is almost the same as the Redmi Y3 but has a lower resolution selfie camera. If you buy the 3GB RAM variant of Redmi 7, you can save Rs. 1000, and since the phone supports Camera 2 API, you may sideload Google camera for better selfies.

It dons a 6.26-inch waterdrop notch display with HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by fairly powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor coupled with a 4000 mAh battery.

It flaunts a 12MP+2MP dual camera combo at the back and an 8MP front camera. Features like face unlocking, a 3.5mm headphone jack, fingerprint sensor, and IR blaster makes it a good package. It sports Comet Blue, Eclipse Black, and Lunar Red colors.
